State police end Germansville standoff with man who threatened them

State police took a barricaded man into custody on Wednesday after an hours-long standoff.

At approximately noon, a trooper assigned to the Bethlehem barracks was dispatched to the Germansville Post Office, at 6066 Memorial Road, Heidelberg Township for a report of a man harassing customers in the facility.

After arriving at the post office, the trooper went to the man’s home, on the 6000 block of Memorial Road to continue the investigation.

Police spoke to the 30-year-old man, who has not been named, and he threatened to kill the trooper.

Troopers from both the Bethlehem and Fogelsville barracks arrived and surrounded the man’s residence. The man eventually left his residence and was taken into custody by state police.

He was transported to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Road closures during the incident included Hunters Hill Road and Bake Oven Road; Bullhead Road and Memorial Road; Railroad Road and Bake Oven Road; Central Road and Memorial Road.

Assisting at the scene were the state game warden, Germansville Fire Department, Northwestern Lehigh School Police and the Special Emergency Response Team.
