Police give details of fatal crash
The details of a three-vehicle crash that happened at 12:24 p.m. Oct. 13 on Route 309 in Lynn Township, claiming the life of a Pine Grove man, have been released by state police at Fogelsville.
Philip J. Helman, 52, sustained fatal injuries in the crash, police said.
Meanwhile, police said two persons sustained “possible injuries” and three others had “suspected minor injuries” in the crash.
Police said Helman was driving a Buick LaCrosse heading northbound in the right lane of Route 309 and a Chevrolet Trax driven by Beth T. Kistler, 25, of Tamaqua, was going southbound. Police said Helman attempted to move into the left lane to pass a vehicle when the LaCrosse lost traction on the road, hydroplaned and traveled into the southbound lane, hitting the Trax.
Following initial impact with the Trax, the Helman’s LaCrosse spun counter-clockwise in front of a 2012 Ford F-150 operated by Giovanni J. Cazonie, 23, of Minersville, who was traveling southbound on Route 309 directly behind the Trax. Police said the front portion of the F-150 came in contact with the passenger-side of the LaCrosse. The F-150 continued off the right side of the roadway where it hiy a tree before stopping.
Police said the LaCrosse continued off the right side of the road and struck a small boulder before coming to its final rest.
Police said Kistler and one of her passengers, LaRue M. Fink, 75, of Andreas, had “possible injuries” but were not transported to a hospital while a second passenger, a five-year-old boy from New Ringgold, had “suspected minor injuries” and also did not require a medical transport.
Cazonie was uninjured but two of his passengers, Redmond H. Lines III, 55, of Mountain Top, and Eugene J. Tonte, 54, of Kulpmont, had “suspected minor injuries” and were also not transported to the hospital, police said.
Police are asking anyone who may have additional information about the incident to contact Trooper Bernard at the Fogelsville barracks, 1-610-395-1438.
