State police at Fern Ridge release information on the following crashes:
• Gani N. Ates, 18, of Port Jefferson, New York, escaped injuries in a crash at 6:18 p.m. Oct. 13 on Interstate 80 in Tunkhannock Township.
State police at the Fern Ridge barracks said Ates was driving a 2017 Ford Fiesta eastbound when, due to wet conditions and the speed, he lost control. The car left the roadway, struck an embankment and rolled over approximately two or three times, coming to rest on the driver’s side.
The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Police said Ates was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
• Police reported a vehicle fled the scene of a crash at 9:23 a.m. Oct. 5 on Bluegrass Lane in Chestnuthill Township. A vehicle was traveling east, left the roadway and struck a mailbox before leaving the scene.
• A 2021 Toyota RAV4 needed to be towed off Interstate 80 after its driver was unable to avoid striking a deer that had entered its path.
Police said it happened at 7:47 p.m. Oct. 18 at mile marker 289.5 in Tunkhannock Township.
Police said Yong Li, 51, of Dewitt, Michigan, was westbound when the car struck the animal, causing disabling damages. He was not hurt, police said.
• Jonathan D. Spitzer, 26, of Jim Thorpe, escaped injuries in a crash at 5:17 a.m. Oct. 19 on East Old Stage Road in Penn Forest Township.
Police said he was driving a 2017 Ford Fusion westbound when a deer ran out onto the roadway. Police said he swerved to avoid striking the deer, but lost control of the Fusion. It left the left side of the roadway, entered a ditch, and overturned, causing disabling damages.
