The Lansford borough council said last week that works continues on the borough’s pool.
The project started this summer to replace leaking pipes. The pool was closed seven years ago because of the leaks.
According to council President Bruce Markovich, the issue with the pool now is the skimmers.
“No skimmers are available that fit the configuration of the pool wall,” Markovich said. “They either have to get them made or try to find them somewhere.”
Joseph Hutta Pluming and Heating was contracted for work on the pool and recently discovered the issue with the skimmers. A pool skimmer is one of the components of a pool’s filtration system. It is how dirt, leaves and debris are filtered out of the pool’s water to help keep it clean.
“Once the skimmers come in,” Markovich said, “we will install them and the test run the water.”
Council had an Local Share Account grant for $50,000 for handicapped ramps at Ashton Park. The cost of the ramps came in at $100,000. The $50,000 will be used as the matching funds to get a grant from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for the rest of the funds. The DCNR grant will pay for handicapped ramps, sidewalks around the pool, and two or three rides in the park for the handicapped.
A representative from DCNR suggested that the borough hold off on the work that it is planned in Kennedy Park. DCNR wants a consultant to review the park and develop a plan for it.
Council approved the measure to roll the LSA grant into the DCNR grant.
