State police in Hazleton report incidents
State police in Hazleton announce the following:
• A 2017 Nissan Murano was stopped at 5:48 p.m. on Aug. 13 along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township for a traffic violation.
At the stop several indicators of criminal activity were observed. Additionally, a passenger was found to be wanted on a warrant out of the state of Maryland. Troopers declined to identify him. He was taken into custody on the warrant.
A consent search was conducted and a small amount of marijuana and suspected cocaine were found.
The driver, Marshall Pounds, 31, of Knoxville, Tennessee, was taken into custody and charged with drug counts.
• On Sept. 28 troopers responded to South Church Street, Hazle Township, Luzerne County, for a report of a vehicle damage and a catalytic converter stolen.
A 42-year-old woman from Lansford, had parked her 2015 Chrysler Town & Country van at a location along Church Street. Sometime between Sept. 5 and the report of the incident someone broke two windows of the vehicle, stole two microwaves, four vacuums and the converter. Total value of the stolen items was estimated at $735 and damages to the vehicle set at $185.
• On Sept. 13 a 45-year-old man from Shenandoah reported the catalytic converters on two of his vehicles that were parked along the Cando Expressway in Hazle Township, were stolen. The vehicles involved were a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a 1989 Jeep Laredo. Estimated value of the converters was set at $600. The theft occurred sometime between Sept. 8 and when it was reported.
• Ashley Sist, 36, of Hazleton was charged with criminal mischief. Troopers said on Oct. 8 at 2:27 p.m. at 938 Jeansville Road, in Hazle Township, she threw a brick through the window of a 2007 Chevrolet owned by Ashley Skotek, 34, of Tresckow.
• Troopers said a home along North Stagecoach Road in Lausanne Township, was entered. The incident was reported by the owner, a 62-year-old man from Weatherly, on Sept. 6. Taken in the break-in were various household items with an estimated value of $625.
