Palmerton cheerleaders’ floats grab honors

Kids and adults packed the streets of Palmerton on Sunday for the town’s annual Halloween Parade.

Two groups of young Bomber cheerleaders took home top large float prizes.

Palmerton Booster Club flag cheerleaders dazzled the judges with their “Bombers in Wonderland” theme, earning the best overall outstanding large float honor.

The booster club’s junior varsity cheerleaders, meanwhile, were named best Halloween-themed large float thanks to their “Sailing Into Victory” pirate ship.

“Today, the streets were filled and Delaware Avenue was bubbling with Halloween spirit,” parade judge Tammy Recker said. “It was one for the books. The kids, parents, teachers, schools, coaches, churches, businesses, organizations, and everyone and thing in between did a phenomenal job. Seeing the community come together to support one another in such a light hearted and fun way is what makes this small town one of the best kept treasures.”

Along the main parade route on Delaware Avenue, spectators gave big thumbs up to the entries, particularly when the youth were involved.

“We love seeing all of the hard work the kids put into some of these floats,” Dustin Weaver said, as he watched with his two young sons. “Everything is great, but when the kids are out there smiling and have a good time, that is what it’s all about.”

First, second, third and fourth place in the large float category went to Off the Charts Music School’s “Deadly Charts,” Palmerton Booster Club rookie cheerleaders’ “Zombie Cheerleaders,” Cartesion Dance Academy’s “The Thrill of Dance,” and Palmerton Booster Club rookie and flag football’s “Bombers Will School You” respectively.

Honorable mention large floats included Palmerton Booster Club varsity cheerleaders’ “Squad Ghouls in Halloweentown,” St. John Neumann Regional School’s “Our Future Is So Bright We Need Shades,” and Cub Pack 209’s “Keepin It Real.”

In its inaugural entry in the parade, the Times News was named overall best appearing business. Honorable mention went to Stahler Brothers Services LLC, a local pressure washing company. Other businesses participating included Units Moving and Portable Storage, Cutting Edge Property Services, Gombert Family Games, Klingle Lawn Care and Snow Removal, Stepps and Sons Auto Recycling and Phat Kid Photo Booth.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church’s “God on the Go” theme earned it best-costumed group. Girl Scout Troop 301’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” finished second in the costumed category, while Girl Scout Troop 3802’s “Sunshine Lollipops and Rainbows,” and Girl Scout Troop 3506 tied for third. Other entries included Mountain Karate Academy, and Girl Scout Troop 3354’s “Cookie Express.”

Palmerton Hungarian Club’s “Happy Days” won best small float, finishing ahead of Palmerton VFW, who earned honorable mention.

In the non-costumed category, Dance With Kim earned first prize, followed by Palmerton High School’s cheerleaders and Palmerton Junior High School cheerleaders.

Art Grammes’ classic car was named top automotive entry in the parade.

Parade sponsors included Lehigh Valley Health Network, the Carbon County Republican Committee, the committee to elect Doyle Heffley, Palmerton Subway, ARM Lawyers, Country Harvest Family Market, Hager Furniture, Cheng Law Offices, T.K. Thomas Funeral Home, Photography By Lynn, First Northern Bank, Michael R. Everett DDS, Pencor Services and Watch Me Grow Day Care.

The parade committee includes Susan Arner, Larry Arner, Kelli O’Donnell, Tammy Recker, Connie Reinhart, Louise Koons, Brad Landis, Jerry Robertson, Brian Horn and Jimmy Schneck.
