DUI charges

State Police at Lehighton released details of area motorists facing driving under the influence cases:

• On Oct. 10 at 4:37 p.m. troopers stopped a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze at Carney Road at Golden Retriever Lane in Polk Township, Monroe County for traffic violations.

Police said the driver, Barbara Thompson, 69, of Palmerton, was suspected for DUI of a controlled substance. She refused to submit to testing. Charges will be filed.

• On Oct. 11 at 9:18 a.m. troopers conducted a traffic stop of a 2012 Volkswagen along Lehigh Drive in Palmerton for traffic violations. The driver, a 19-year-old man from Walnutport, who troopers declined to identify, was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance. He was taken into custody and submitted to chemical testing. Police said charges will be filed.

• A driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence following a crash in Carbon County.

Police said the crash occurred at 12:54 a.m. along Little Gap Road in Lower Towamensing Township. Troopers said Tyler J. Gitch, 29, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2010 Hyundai Accent when he lost control of the vehicle. It left the road and struck a parked 2019 Ford Escape and then a utility pole.

Troopers said Gitch was not injured but it was discovered he was under the influence of alcohol.

• Police stopped a Saturn in the 300 block of Mountain View Drive in Polk Township at 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 23. The driver, Taylor Amoroso, 43, of Kunkletown, was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance and in possession of drug paraphernalia. She was requested to take a blood test. Charges are pending.

Troopers said there were two boys in the vehicle, ages 13 and 15.

• A driver is facing charges following a crash that occurred at 1:16 p.m. on Sept. 22 along Canal Street in Franklin Township.

Troopers said the driver of a 2002 Ford lost control going around a left curve, crossed the westbound lane west off the road, then hit a retaining wall before coming to rest.

The 22-year-old man from Lehighton, who troopers declined to identify, fled the scene but was later located at his home. He was taken into custody and transported to St. Luke’s Hospital - Carbon Campus, for a blood draw. He refused medical treatment and will be charged, troopers said.

• A crash occurred on Sept. 24 at 9:22 p.m. at Wintergreen and Sunset roads in Lower Towamensing Township.

A 2014 Ford F150 truck was westbound when it left the road and hit a tree. After impact with the tree the vehicle became airborne and landed and slid off the westbound lane facing east.

The driver, a 44-year-old man from Palmerton, who troopers declined to identify, was taken into custody for DUI. Police said he will be charged.
