Area crashes
State police at Fern Ridge reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers on Monroe County roadways.
• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 7:05 p.m. on Oct. 2 along Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Erik R. Hartley, 32, of Kunkletown, driving a 2017 Nissan Titan, was waiting in driveway/entrance to make a left turn onto 209. He pulled out into the path of a 2002 Ford Focus driven by Christopher A. Kelley, 30, of Albrightsville, who was northbound, and a collision occurred. Troopers noted at the time of the crash there was construction and warning barrels present along the south and north side of the roadway.
No one was injured. Both vehicles were towed.
Hartley was cited for the crash.
• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 12:21 a.m. on Sept. 3 along Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township. Troopers said Cuan H. Grant, 27, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2007 Toyota Tundra truck eastbound when he drove off the left side of the road and struck a guide rail. Grant was injured and taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, East Stroudsburg. He was cited for the crash.
• A two-vehicle crash occurred at 5:52 p.m. on Sept. 23 at Merwinsburg Road and Harvest Moon Lane, in Chestnuthill Township.
Troopers were responding to the report of a vehicle into a tree when they received a report that the driver involved was attempting to leave the scene and backed up into a 2009 Ford operated by Valerie R. Simmons, 70, of Effort, who had stopped to assist at the scene.
Trooper said the driver, later identified as Kevin R. Duswalt, 42, of Brodheadsville, apologized to Simmons and left the scene without providing any information.
Duswalt was later located at this home and admitted to both crashes. Duswalt was charged with numerous motor vehicle code violations.
No one was injured.
• A crash occurred at 4:17 p.m. Sept. 27. along Route 248 in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Troopers said a 17-year-old male from Bowmanstown, driving a 2010 Hyundai Elantra, was westbound when he lost control with the vehicle traveling in the right lane, then to the left land and back to the right lane. The vehicle then struck a concrete barrier on the right side of the road.
The teen was evaluated at the scene by EMS unit from Palmerton and released. The vehicle had to be towed.
The teen was cited for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.
• A crash occurred at 8:27 p.m. Sept. 27 along Kunkletown Road in Ross Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Audra J. Jarecki, 22, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2022 Subaru Legacy westbound when a deer entered the road in front of her. She could not stop in time and her vehicle struck the deer. The vehicle then left the road and traveled down an embankment where it came to rest.
Jarecki was not injured. The vehicle was towed.
