Jim Thorpe’s girls’ soccer team closed out the regular season with a key Schuylkill League victory on Wednesday.
GIRLS SOCCER
No. Schuylkill-Jim Thorpe
Jim Thorpe capped the regular season with a 15-1-1 overall record thanks to a 5-0 Schuylkill League shutout victory over North Schuylkill.
With the win, the Olympians secured the No. 1 spot in the SL Division 1 with a league record of 10-1-1. The shutout against the Spartans (2-15; 2-10) marked the program’s 14th of the season, as Jim Thorpe outscored its opponents 84-3 this year.
Lauren LeKites led the Olympians with two goals and an assist, while Alexis Marotto and Nicole Carroll also had a goal and an assist. Aurora VanAuken (goal) and Mackenzie Yuhas (two assists) both contributed to the offensive output.
Olivia Rosenberger made three saves for Jim Thorpe, while Madelyn Moyer ended up with 10 saves for the Spartans.
Pleasant Vy.-Stroudsburg
Pleasant Valley clinched a district playoff berth with a 1-0 win over Eastern Pennsylvania Conference rival Stroudsburg.
Makayla Berry scored for the Bears (9-8-1). Riley Green and Aryn Stivala were each credited with the assist on the goal. Saddie Rizzo made 18 saves for Pleasant Valley, currently sixth in the Class 4A standings.
BOYS SOCCER
Palmerton-Jim Thorpe
Three second-half goals lifted Jim Thorpe to a 3-1 non-league win over visiting Palmerton.
Dawson Meckes knotted the game up early in the second half at 1-1 before Jacob Geiser gave his team the lead and then sealed the deal with another goal.
Meckes assisted on both of Geiser’s goals, while Rowan Melber had an assist on the goal by Meckes.
The Bombers took a 1-0 lead into half thanks to a penalty kick off the foot of Trevor Anthony.
Cael Heaney finished with five saves for the Olympians, while Trey Sterling posted nine saves for the Bombers.
Jim Thorpe moves to 9-9 overall, while Palmerton ends the regular season with a 1-13-2 record.
Tamaqua-Lehighton
Mason Marchessault shined on Senior Night as Lehighton earned a 4-1 Schuylkill League victory over visiting Tamaqua.
Marchessault scored all four goals in the win, with three coming in the first half. Matt Sofranko and Lucas Nichols both had assists.
Bryce Miller recorded 15 saves for the Tribe, while Jonathan Ulicny finished with 27 saves for the Blue Raiders.
Lehighton improves to 12-6 overall (6-6 SL), while Tamaqua falls to 5-12-1 (4-8).
Weatherly-Schuylkill Haven
Schuylkill Haven rolled to a 7-1 Schuylkill League win over visiting Weatherly.
Trent Higgins posted the Wreckers’ lone goal off an assist from Ron Hoffman. Michael Davies (three saves) and Wyatt Higgins (two saves) split time in net for the Wreckers.
Weatherly slides to 2-15-1 overall (2-9-1 SL), while Schuylkill Haven moves to 9-6-1 (9-2).
FIELD HOCKEY
Whitehall-Northern Lehigh
Whitehall cruised to a 12-1 non-conference victory over Northern Lehigh.
Ariana Williams scored for the Bulldogs. Daisy Richards recorded 18 saves.
Northern Lehigh ends the season with an 0-17 overall record.
VOLLEYBALL
Palmerton-EEA
Executive Education Academy Charter School recorded a 25-18, 25-22, 25-21 non-league victory over Palmerton.
Kaitlyn Heimbach paced the Bombers with eight digs and two aces, while Alysa Roe finished with seven digs and four assists.
Palmerton falls to 2-15 overall, while EEACS moves to 8-6.

Lehighton-Nativity-
Schuylkill Haven-Pottsville
The Lehighton boys swept a meet against Pottsville, Nativity and Schuylkill Haven, while the Indians went 2-1 in the girls’ meet.
Owen Serfass led the way for the Lehighton boys, as Serfass posted a first-place finish in a time of 18:50. His sister, Olivia Serfass, led the Tribe in the girls’ meet, as she crossed the line with a team-best seventh-place finish.
Elijah Pagotto (second place), Kyle Kuzinicki (sixth), Caden Kresge (ninth) and Bradley Yenser (10th) all posted top-10 finishes in the final regular season meet of the season for Lehighton.

North Schuylkill-Tamaqua
The Tamaqua boys and girls posted sweeps in a meet against Mahanoy, Marian and North Schuylkill.
Mia Jones won the girls’ race for the Raiders, crossing the line in 22:19. Tamaqua’s Samantha Plasha also placed in the top-five with a fourth-place finish as the Raiders topped Mahanoy (24-31), Marian (21-40) and North Schuylkill (18-44). Isabella Jones and Ava Jones also added top-10 finishes in eighth- and ninth-place for the Raiders.
In the boys’ meet, Tony Marchetti, Levi Kunkel and Stephen Kieffer were third, fourth and fifth, respectively for Tamaqua’s boys, who posted wins over Mahanoy (17-46), Marian (20-41) and North Schuylkill (20-42).
Albin Petschauer paced the Colts in the boys’ meet with a second-place finish. Ava Fritz and Emma Ashfield were sixth and seventh for the Fillies in the girls’ meet, respectively.
