Local Roundup: Results from Oct. 8
Lehighton’s Mason Marchessault and Weatherly’s Kendall Gerhart both had hat tricks to lift their teams to victory on Saturday.
The Indians defeated Schuylkill Haven in boys soccer action, while the Wreckers edged Marian in girls soccer play.
Other winners included the Tamaqua boys soccer team, as well as the Palmerton and Pleasant Valley girls soccer clubs.
In volleyball action, Marian swept Palmerton and Executive Education.
BOYS SOCCER
Sch. Haven-Lehighton
Mason Marchessault had a hat trick to power Lehighton to a 6-1 victory over Schuylkill Haven.
Marchessault scored all three of his goals in the first half as the Indians jumped out to a 4-0 lead.
The winners also received goals from Jackson Strauss, AJ Light and Levi Monk, with Strauss adding an assist. Matt Sofranko picked up a pair of assists, while Dan Hoppes chipped in with a helper.
Lehighton keeper Bryce Miller made nine saves to help his team improve to 10-6.
The Hurricanes, who saw their five-game win streak end, dropped to 9-5.
Tamaqua-Palmerton
Jacob Schlier scored two goals and Jonathan Ulicny made 14 saves to help Tamaqua gain a 3-2 non-league victory over Palmerton.
Jesse Gormley also tallied for the Blue Raiders in a contest where all the goals were scored in the first half.
Gormely and Cooper Ansbach had assists for the winners, who are now 5-11.
Trevor Anthony and Peyton Waibel posted goals for the Blue Bombers, who slipped to 1-13-2.
Pen Argyl-Jim Thorpe
Pen Argyl exploded for four goals in the second half to break a tie score and gain a 5-1 non-league victory over Jim Thorpe.
Thorpe’s Jacob Geiser, off an assist from Dawson Meckes, scored in the first half after a Green Knight tally to deadlock the contest at 1-1.
Taylor LaBarre, however, recorded a pair of goals before teammates Nathan Stocker and Hasan Strandzhev also hit netting to put the game away.
The Olympians dropped to 8-8, while Pen Argyl upped its mark to 11-3-1.
GIRLS SOCCER
Notre Dame GP-
Palmerton
Palmerton pushed its winning streak to five with a 4-1 non-league victory over Notre Dame of Green Pond.
Ella Baumgardt had two goals to lead the Blue Bombers, while Beth Morgan and Julia Finley also tallied.
The winners received assists from Riley Gerhard, Nataly Walters, Emma Martinez and Sam Perloni, with keeper Emma Snyder posting six saves.
The win boosts Palmerton’s mark to 14-2, while the Crusaders dropped to 6-8.
Pleasant Vy.-PM West
Riley Green scored two goals and Ella Muir finished with four assists as Pleasant Valley rolled to a 6-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pocono Mountain West.
Aryn Stivala contributed a goal and an assist, while Madison Fava, Hailey Klein and Peyton Foder also scored for the Bears.
PV’s Briana Palmeri chipped in with an assist, and keeper Sadie Rizzo made six saves to record the shutout.
The Bears, who outshot the Panthers by a 36-10 margin and ended a five-game losing streak, improved to 8-7-1. West fell to 4-13.
Weatherly-Marian
Weatherly’s Kendall Gerhart scored two second-half goals to complete a hat trick and help lift the Wreckers to a 4-3 victory over Marian.
Danielle Gordon also scored for the winners, while Juliette Bartel added an assist.
The Fillies’ Alizabeth Pikitus also had a hat trick, accounting for all of her team’s scoring.
Weatherly keeper Emma Kane finished with 11 saves, while Marian goalie Maddison Kattner stopped 15 shots.
The Wreckers are now 4-12, while the Fillies are 0-14.
Lehighton-Pen Argyl
Ellianha Wallbillich scored all five goals for Pen Argyl as the Green Knights blanked Lehighton 5-0 in a non-league contest.
Kayla Maggipinto had two assists for the winners, while keeper Kristen O’Brien finished with 16 saves.
The Indians’ Ciara Behrel stopped 20 shots.
Lehighton fell to 9-7, while Pen Argyl improved to 6-9.
VOLLEYBALL
Marian-Palmerton-
Executive Education
Marian defeated both Palmerton and Executive Education Academy in a tri-match.
Abby Kluck led the Fillies with a combined 10 kills, six digs and five aces, while Julia Meiss added 27 assists.
Marian’s Jenna Goff finished with six kills, four digs and 11 aces, with Megan Paisley adding six kills and four digs.
TENNIS
Tamaqua-Pottsville
Tamaqua’s Emily Antonio and Brooke Williams gained singles wins, but Pottsville swept doubles play to gain a 3-2 victory.
Antonio and Williams both won in straight sets.
The loss ended the Blue Raiders season at 2-11, while the Tide finished the year with a 3-11 mark.
