A dedicated volunteer in Schuylkill County is continuing to give, even after his death.
Brian C. Irslinger, of Pottsville, bequeathed $1,639.65 to the county’s Office of Senior Services.
A retired computer analyst, Irslinger volunteered with the office from 2000 to 2017. He died in February 2021 at the age of 83.
County Financial Director Paul E. Buber at a public commissioners’ meeting Wednesday said Irslinger was a “kind and thoughtful person. He had a passion for volunteerism and helping out the senior citizens. He also served on the advisory board for many years.”
OSS Administrator Deanna Orlowsky said Irslinger was a “devoted volunteer for many different functions. He was so involved with the agency.”
He volunteered as an ombudsman, for consumer transportation, and inter generational penpal, writing to middle school students.
“You don’t see a lot of people doing that any more,” Orlowsky said.
Commissioners Chairman Barron L. Hetherington said Irslinger volunteered in Ringtown, doing a lot for veterans.
He was a member of St. Mary RC Church, Ringtown.
Irslinger also contributed to the Schuylkill Community Foundation.
Commissioner George F. Halcovage Jr. suggested commissioners send a thank-you letter to the executor of Irslinger’s estate.
‘He did serve extremely well on that board, and I think that having a letter coming from the commissioners would be very appropriate,” he said.
