Local roundup: Results from Oct. 5
The Weatherly boys cross country team continued its strong season with three more victories on Wednesday.
Elsewhere, the Northwestern boys and Jim Thorpe girls soccer teams continued their strong play with victories, while Pleasant Valley posted a win in field hockey action.

The Weatherly boys posted a sweep in a Schuylkill League meet at Schuylkill Haven.
The Wreckers topped Schuylkill Haven (21-40), Marian (23-38) and Gillingham Charter (15-50) to move to 12-1 in Division 2. Jacob Parker (18:26) and Michael Berger (18:51) were second and third for Weatherly, which had six runners in the top 10. Albin Petschauer (18:13) placed first in the boys’ meet for the Colts, who went 2-1, and are 9-4.
In the girls’ meet, Marian went 2-1, topping Weatherly and Gillingham Charter by scores of 15-45. Ava Fritz (23:54) and Emma Ashfield (24:24) were second and third, respectively, for the Fillies (11-2).

Pine Grove at Lehighton
The Tamaqua boys and girls each finished with a 2-1 mark in a Schuylkill League meet at Lehighton.
Tony Marchetti and Mia Jones led the way for the Blue Raiders, as both recorded second-place finishes in their respective meets.
Owen Serfass and Elijah Pagotto paced the Indians, as Serfass and Pagotto crossed the line in third and fourth, respectively.
Samantha Plasha posted a fifth-place finish for Tamaqua in the girls meet, while Katie Wojton led her squad with a seventh-place finish for the Indians.

Jordan Remmel ran to a second-place finish for the Jim Thorpe boys in a Schuylkill League meet.
Remmel crossed the line in 17:15 for the Olympians (5-8), who went 2-1, posting wins over North Schuylkill and Pottsville.
In the girls’ meet, Jim Thorpe (9-4) went 1-2, with Aubrey Bonner placing third in 22:46.

Catasauqua-Northwestern
Northwestern’s undefeated season continued with a 12-0 blowout of Catasauqua in Colonial League play.
Cayden Fitch, Matt Johnson and Josh Zellner all scored two goals apiece for the Tigers (17-0). Zellner also had four assists in the game.
Zac Grohotolski, Jack Mauro and Zachary Grim each found the back of the net for Northwestern. Jake Van Lierop also recorded two assists for the Tigers.
No. Lehigh-Palmerton
Two overtime periods and regulation weren’t enough, as Northern Lehigh and Palmerton played to a 1-1 Colonial League tie.
Bryce LoPinto scored for the Bulldogs (2-12-2, 0-9-2) with 1:36 left in regulation to force overtime.
Kellen Trotter put the Bombers (1-12-2, 0-10-2) on the board first with a goal off a Trevor Anythony assist in the first half.
Ethan Kunkle finished with 12 saves for the Bulldogs, while Trey Sterling grabbed 15 saves for the Bombers.
Pine Grove-Tamaqua
Pine Grove posted a 3-1 win over Tamaqua in Schuylkill League action.
S. Kohr scored twice for the Cardinals (11-4), who built a 3-0 lead, while H. Williams added another goal.
Jacob Schlier scored on a penalty kick in the second half for the Blue Raiders (4-9). Jonathan Ulicny made 10 saves.
GIRLS SOCCER
Jim Thorpe-Lehighton
Alexis Marotto scored a goal and assisted two scores in Jim Thorpe’s 4-0 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.
Nicole Carroll got the Olympians on the board in the first half. Mackenzie Yuhas added another score in the first half for Jim Thorpe (12-1-1).
Marotto and Aurora VanAuken both added insurance goals in the second half for the Olympians. Olivia Rosenberger recorded a nine-save shutout for Jim Thorpe.
With the loss, Lehighton falls to 9-6.
Northwestern-Catasauqua
Northwestern rolled to a 7-0 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.
Brook Balliet scored a pair of goals for the Tigers while Paige Bissell, Jayden Gillette, Cammy Fitch, Kirsten Shupp and Quinn Conrey all scored once.
Fitch also had three assists, while Balliet, Bissell, Gillette and Shelby Shupp all had one.
Northwestern closes regular season play with a 12-4-1 overall record, and a 10-1-1 mark in the league. Catasauqua falls to 1-15 overall, and 0-11 in CL play.
Weatherly-Nativity
Nativity posted a 12-0 win over Weatherly in Schuylkill League play.
Emma Kane made 25 saves for the Wreckers (3-12) in the loss.
FIELD HOCKEY
Pleasant Valley-Allen
Matti Hyland scored three goals and had two assists to lead Pleasant Valley to an 8-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Allen.
Heather Todaro had two goals for the Bears, while Liz Gouger, Molly Sobers and Anayah Accilien also found the back of the cage. Sobers and Todaro also added assists on the day.
Pleasant Valley moves to 4-9-1 overall (4-9-1 EPC), while Allen drops to 1-10 (1-10 EPC).
