Local roundup: Results from Sept. 21
Jim Thorpe, Lehighton and Northern Lehigh all posted wins in girls’ soccer action on Wednesday.
Elsewhere, the Northwestern boys soccer team remained undefeated with another convincing victory.
GIRLS SOCCER
Notre Dame ES-Jim Thorpe
In their first-ever varsity meeting in girls’ soccer, Jim Thorpe rolled to a 13-0 non-conference win over Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg.
Seven different players scored for the Olympians (8-1), who recorded their seventh shutout of the season against the Spartans (2-5 overall).
Mackenzie Yuhas and Lauren LeKites both posted hat tricks on the day in the win. Alexis Marotto and Kaila O’Connor each added two goals for JT, while Alexis Proulx, Nicole Carroll and Sarah Harman also scored.
Olivia Rosenberger finished with two saves in the shutout.
Lehighton-Tamaqua
Charli McHugh’s goal with 2:26 left to play turned out to be the game-winning goal, as Lehighton came out on top with a 2-1 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.
Kimmy Rudy put the Blue Raiders on the board, and posted the host’s lone goal with 23:25 left in the first half.
Sadie Monk knotted the game up with a goal with 18:56 left in the second half for the Indians (6-4, 3-4).
Ciara Berhel finished with eight saves for Lehighton, while Cecilia Ulicny ended up with 10 saves for Tamaqua (4-6, 3-4).
Salisbury-Northern Lehigh
Northern Lehigh made it four straight shutouts, thanks to a commanding 6-0 Colonial League win over visiting Salisbury.
Nicole Zarayko led the Bulldogs, who outshot Falcons 36-0, with two goals, while Natalie Moffit, Victoria Hanna, Caitlin Kirk and Dekotah Barthold also scored.
Gabriella Pena finished with 25 saves. Northern Lehigh moves to 8-3 overall (6-2 CL), while Salisbury slips to 4-5 (2-6).
BOYS SOCCER
Northwestern-Palmerton
Northwestern kept up its winning ways thanks to a 6-1 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.
The Tigers remain atop the Colonial League with an undefeated 9-0 mark, and moved to 12-0 on the season.
Josh Zellner scored two goals and added an assist, while becoming part of the program’s 50-point club. Matt Johnson also had two goals.
Cayden Fitch and Jack Mauro both posted a goal and an assist, while Jake van Lierop finished with two assists and Tim Zellner added an assist.
Palmerton slips to 1-10 overall, and 0-8 in the league.

Tamaqua-Gillingham Chtarter
North Schuylkill-Tri-Valley
The Tamaqua boys and girls posted sweeps in a Schuylkill League meet at Tri-Valley, with both finishing the day 3-0.
Mia Jones placed first with a time of 23:56 in the girls’ meet for the Raiders, while Samantha Plasha, Isabella Jones and Ava Jones finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
Anthony Marchetti led the Tamaqua boys with a third-place finish, while Levi Kunkel and Stephen Kieffer placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

Jordan Remmel ran to a runner-up finish in the boys’ meet with a time of 17:20 for Jim Thorpe. Ridge Snyder also placed in the top-five, placing fifth in 18:07.
Lindsay Patton (fifth, 23:03) and Aubrey Bonner (sixth, 23:34) led Jim Thorpe in the girls meet.

Albin Petschauer placed first in the boys’ meet for Marian, while Katie Wojton ran to a second-place finish in the girls’ meet for the Indians.
Emma Ashfield led the Fillies with a fourth-place finish.

Pleasant Valley got back on track with a 25-6, 25-12, 25-20 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Stroudsburg to remain undefeated in the Mountain Division.
Maria Saitta led the Bears with six digs, five aces, two assists and one kill, while Nora Jones chipped in with five kills, four digs and two aces.
Jackie James (five kills, four digs), Lexi Womack (four kills, two aces, two digs) and Brianna Bruckman (11 assists) helped Pleasant Valley remain undefeated in the Mountain Division.
The Bears moved to 5-5 overall (4-0 EPC), while Stroudsburg slips to 4-7 (2-3).
Pottsville-Lehighton
Pottsville needed an extra set, but came away with a 25-17, 25-16, 25-27, 25-21 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.
Lily Kershner had seven kills, six blocks and two aces for the Indians, while Haley Ginder added four kills and two aces. Mia Snyder added seven assists, while Madelyn Sofranko posted six assists, and Lyla Kershner recorded six digs.
Lehighton falls to 3-8 overall (2-5 SL), while Pottsville improves to 7-2 (6-1).

Pleasant Vy-Stroudsburg
Stroudsburg swept Pleasant Valley 7-0 in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference match.
The Mounties move to 13-1 with the win, while the Bears fall to 7-6.
