Monroe County crashes

State police at Stroudsburg released information on Monroe County crashes:

• George Dunbar, 62, of Jeannette, escaped injuries in a one-vehicle crash Aug. 30 on Interstate 80 westbound in Tunkhannock Township.

Police said he was driving a Chrysler 300 when he lost control of the vehicle and it went off the left side of the road, rolling over 1-2 times down an embankment and coming to rest about 20 feet down the hill.

• Two vehicles were damaged but no one was injured in a mishap on Aug. 26 on Route 611 in Hamilton Township.

State police at the Stroudsburg barracks said a Cadillac operated by Michael Moreno, 29, of East Stroudsburg, was northbound and attempted to merge where two lanes merge into one, coming too close to a Sterling L9500 operated by Ty R. Vliet, 69, of Reeders, causing the crash.

• A Chrysler driven by Melissa A. Fredericks, 31, of Effort, sustained minor damages when it was rear-ended by a Toyota Sienna operated by Demartino T. Shiflette, 72, of Buffalo, New York, on Aug. 26.

It happened on the Tannersville exit ramp of Interstate 80 westbound. State police at the Stroudsburg barracks said Fredericks had slowed down because of congested traffic at which time the Sienna struck it from behind.

Shiflette was cited by police for following too closely.

Neither driver was injured.

• State police at the Stroudsburg barracks were summoned to the area of Setzer and Neyhart roads in Hamilton Township on Sept. 5 after a rig struck low hanging cable wire across Setzer Road.

Police said the Freightliner was westbound when it struck the wire with its top of the tractor. This, in turn, pulled a power cable off a nearby residence and the power cable fell across the roadway, police said.

• A Kia Optima driven by Shane B. Skoglund, 19, of Passaic, New Jersey, struck the rear of a car on Route 33 in Hamilton Township before leaving the road and overturning twice, state police at Stroudsburg said.

It happened Sept. 8 when the Optima was following a Chevrolet Cruze driven by Serena E. Leonard, 21, of Catasauqua, too closely and struck it in the rear when traffic slowed. Police said the Optima traveled off the roadway, went up an embankment and rolled over twice before coming to rest in the left lane.

Police said Skoglund sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by personnel from the West End Ambulance Corps.

He was cited for following too closely.

The Optima was towed from the scene while the Cruze was able to be driven from the site.

• Louis Ramirez, 19, of Allentown, was cited by state police at the Stroudsburg barracks with following too closely after a crash on Sept. 8 on Route 33 in Hamilton Township.

Police said he was driving a Nissan Altima that struck the rear of a Ford F-150 driven by Garfield E. Thompson, 60, of Bushkill.

The Altima was towed from the scene while the F-150 had minor damage.

No one was hurt in the incident.
