Walnutport Borough Council took the following action last week:
• Released Bracalante Construction from their contract, at their request, concerning the S. Canal St. project.
• Awarded the S. Canal St. project to S&G Asphalt Service, Slatington, in the amount of $24,150.
• Tabled the appointment of a fire inspector until next month’s meeting.
• Approved a monthly maintenance agreement plan for the borough’s phone system at the rate of $65 a month.
• Approved a request from the Walnutport Canal Association to allow fire police to direct traffic from noon to 5 p.m. during the Walnutport Canal Festival on Oct. 16.
• Approved a request to allow fire police to help in the Borough of Palmerton for an event in October as well as on Nov. 24.
• Announced that an electronic recycling and shredding event will be held from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 12.
• Announced that the Walnutport Tree Lighting Adopt a Tree event will be held Dec. 3. There will also be food trucks at 2 p.m., and a candy cane hunt at 3 p.m.
