Pleasant Valley principal charged with harassment

A Pleasant Valley School District principal is scheduled to appear in district court on Monday after being been cited for harassment following a domestic incident this past spring.

According to a non-traffic citation filed by Trooper Bryan Kolodziej of the Pennsylvania State Police — Stroudsburg barracks against Kendal Askins, principal at Pleasant Valley Intermediate School:

The incident took place at 6:56 p.m. March 31 when Askins, 36, of East Stroudsburg, struck a man with an open hand on two occasions in the right side of his face/eye area, causing redness to his right eye.

On an 8-1 vote, Pleasant Valley School Board in August 2021 promoted Askins from assistant principal to principal of PVIU after the departure of Todd Breiner.

Director Laura Jecker voted against the promotion, but didn’t state a reason for her vote. Jecker resigned last month.

Askins was hired in June 2018 to fill the assistant principal’s position at PVI. She is a graduate of Queens College with a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics education and a master’s degree in mathematics education. Askins attended Queens College and Wilkes University graduate programs.

Askins previously served as a gifted teacher in the East Stroudsburg School District.
