Orphan ministry
Our Lady Queen of Peace Orphan Ministry will be meeting at 6:30 p.m. tonight in the Cafe. That is a rescheduled meeting from this past Thursday.
Auxiliary meets
The Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, will meet at 7 p.m. tonight.
Precious junk
Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will hold its Precious Junk sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday and Saturday.
Valor event
Valor will have volunteers at ShopRite on Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as well as Oct. 8 and Nov. 4 to receive donations of food and finances.
FUSION begins
Middlecreek Christian Church is again hosting a free weekend of music, food, ministry, fun, games, and much more at Fusion Festival 2022.
The event runs from Friday through Saturday.
To help with costs, love offerings will be accepted any time during the event. Attendees should bring their own camping gear and camp the entire weekend or just come for the day.
The event begins Friday at 5 p.m. with dinner followed by music from Jordan River Ramblers and It Is Written Worship. The movie Family Camp under the stars with a campfire Bible Study concludes the evening.

Flea market
St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Rt. 115, Saylorsburg, will host its autumn flea market on Saturday, with a rain date of Sept. 24.
Doors will be open for sales from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the kitchen will serve lunch, beverages and home-baked treats.
WE Food Pantry
The West End Food Pantry, Kunkletown, will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Food Truck Fest
The West End Fire Company, Brodheadsville, is hosting a food truck festival with rummage sale and tricky tray Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.
Pig Roast held
The Fourth Annual Sons of the American Legion pig roast will be held from 2 to 9:30 p.m., Saturday, at the American Legion Post home in Gilbert. It is an open to community event and offers unlimited food, beer, wine, fireworks. Tickets include tunes by Jammer Joe, pulled pork, burgers, dogs, soda, water, and a 50/50 drawing.

Community Day
Ross Township’s Community Day is to be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the VanBuskirk-Haney Park on Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg.
Slated to be included are sack races, bingo, kid crafts, other games, food trucks, and local nonprofits.

Outdoor movie
The Western Pocono Community Library will be hosting a September Outdoor Movie Night at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Encanto! will be playing. Registration is not required.
Those planning to attend should bring a blanket and flashlight. Any changes due to weather will be posted to the WPCL website and social media.
Religious Education
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will begin its religious education after the 8 a.m. Mass on Sunday, with parents and students in attendance, meeting in the church and asking families to sit together in any pew or chair section.

Sunday school
St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, will begin its Christian Education program for all ages-adult, youth and children at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Breakfast ahead
The Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company will restart its all-you-can-eat, buffet style, breakfast on Sunday.

Riders meet
The American Legion Riders, Chapter 927, will hold its monthly meeting at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Post home in Gilbert.
Soup sale set
Effort UMC is holding its next soup sale through Tuesday. Being offered are stuffed cabbage soup and sausage minestrone. Pick up for the soup is after each service on Sept. 25.
Free dinner
Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, will again host a free community drive-through dinner from 5 to 6 p.m. next Wednesday.
Ross Historical
Although the Ross Township Historical Society meets the second Thursday of the month, in September the meeting will be on Sept. 22.
Fall cleanup
Eldred Township has announced two fall cleanup days: from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sept. 23, and from 8 a.m. to noon, Oct. 1.
It is free to all Eldred Township residents and takes place at the Eldred Township Municipal Building in Kunkletown.
Dumpsters will be available to receive all the trash residents cannot put in their respective normal weekly collection, including small appliances, furniture, car seats, bicycles, mattresses, lawn furniture, old grills, books, etc.
Metals will be recycled so folks are asked to keep them separate.
Tires will be collected for a fee, but there is a limit of 10 per household.
Schoolhouse open
The 2022 Open House for the Frantz One-Room Schoolhouse will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sept. 24.
A visit offers a great opportunity to visit and see the wonderful displays of times past in Eldred Township. It is great for reminiscing and for school-aged children to see how their ancestors were schooled.
There are collections of old textbooks, photos and many other displays related to the time the Schoolhouse served the community.
Ride & Rally
From Palmerton to the West End, a ride & rally to benefit Veteran Suicide Awareness & the Traditional Memorial Mile, will be held Sept. 24, beginning with registration at the Vietnam Memorial in the Palmerton Borough Park on Delaware Avenue.
Speakers will include state and local politicians, Gold Star families and TikTok’s Mike & Coop.
The party, a barbecue, will begin at the Gilbert American Legion at 2 p.m.

Bonfire set
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will hold a family Rosary bonfire from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Sept. 25.
Parishioners are invited to come to the fire pit by the pavilion to pray the rosary and enjoy some s’mores. They are reminded to bring a chair and/or blanket.
If it rains, all will move under the pavilion.
Bog walks
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center offers guided weekly Tannersville Bog walks Wednesdays at 1 p.m. now through Nov. 9.

Special recycling
The Monroe County Municipal Waste Management Authority is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste event for Monroe County only on next Wednesday.
The drop-off location the Military Road Recycling Site, 1114 Military Road, Stroudsburg.
Accepted will be gasoline, antifreeze, motor oil, oil-based paint, insecticides, pool chemicals, fire extinguishers and more.
One must register and pay before arriving. Only items paid for will be accepted.

After a two-months hiatus, the Chestnuthill Township Historical Society intends to meet again at 6 p.m., next Wednesday.
Equinox class
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced an Autumnal Equinox Yoga Class
As the Sun crosses the celestial equator, it marks the Autumnal Equinox.
On Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. in a Yoga Salutation as attendees will welcome fall, a time to give gratitude for one’s harvested efforts and intentions set earlier in the year, as class members commune in nature.
Lori Kerrigan, LUNA MOTH, is a certified professional level yoga teacher with almost 25 years experience and will lead the class.
This all adult level yoga class will be held under the Mattioli Pavilion at the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center. In the event of inclement weather, class will be moved inside.

Stargazing trip

Ham dinner
Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kresgeville is having a ham takeout dinner Oct. 15.
The dinner includes ham, filling with gravy, carrots, applesauce, roll and choice of molasses or pineapple upside-down cake.
