Lehighton business makes two $2,500 donations

A Lehighton business has donated a portion of funds raised from a golf event to the Lehighton Fire Department.

Kim Semmel, owner of Dance with Kim, presented a check for $2,500 to the fire department at Monday’s borough council meeting.

Semmel told council that Dance with Kim For A Cause seeks to give donations to families in need and community organizations.

She said the funds were raised during the Second Annual Richard Semmel Memorial Golf Classic last month at Olde Homestead Golf Club in New Tripoli.

Semmel said the other $2,500 raised was given to the Palmerton Fire Department on Saturday during the 33rd annual Palmerton Community Festival.

She said the Third Annual Richard Semmel Memorial Golf Classic will be held Sept. 16, 2023 at Olde Homestead Golf Club.

After the meeting, Lehighton Fire Chief Pat Mriss said the funds would be used toward equipment and gear for the fire department.

“We’re very appreciative that the Dance with Kim organization thought of us, and we’re grateful for the donation,” Mriss said. “It’s to help protect the citizens. All money goes back to help keep the community, both living in and visiting the area, safe.”

After the meeting, Semmel said Dance with Kim For A Cause was the idea of her daughter, Brittany Semmel-Pry.

“She wanted to do a golf tournament for some time,” Kim said. “We like to keep our students involved with the community, so we take our job very passionately.”

Kim said Dance with Kim For A Cause was formed two years ago.

“We think having our students involved in the community is a very important aspect as well,” she said. “This just kind of lets people in the community know that we have good families and good kids.”
