Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 12

The three-time defending District 11 Class 2A champion and back-to-back Colonial League winning Palmerton golf team completed a dominant regular season campaign with another victory on Monday.

GOLF

Palmerton-Northwestern

Tyler Hager and Connor Reinhard tied for medalist honors to lead unbeaten Palmerton past Northwestern 405-463 over Northwestern in a Colonial League match.

Hager and Connor Reinhard each finished with a 73, while Jared Reinhard shot an 81 for the Bombers (14-0). Nate Steinmetz carded an 85, while Brayden Hosier recorded a 93 in the win.

Stone Sosnovik led the way for the Tigers (5-8) with an 87. Ethan Kozlowski and Avri Chandler both shot an 89 in the contest for Northwestern.

Trey Spring shot a match-low 78 as Lehighton posted victories over Jim Thorpe and Panther Valley.

Spring led the Indians (390) past the Panthers (424) and Olympians (426) at Jack Frost National.

Jim Thorpe’s Mark Domski (92). Panther Valley’s Drew Kokinda (94) and Lehighton’s Lucas Schatz (96) also recorded scores under 100 for their respective teams.

N. Schuylkill-Jim Thorpe

Dawson Meckes and Noah Geiser both recorded a hat trick as Jim Thorpe cruised to a 9-0 Schuylkill League win over North Schuylkill.

Meckes added an assist to his three goals, while Ivan Turzeniuk added a goal and two assists. Ehren Hassler and Hayden Hurd added both scored for the Olympians (4-4 overall; 3-2 SL), while Jacob Geiser added two assists and both Jayden Chambers and Cael Heaney each added one assist.

Blake Barberio finished with five saves for Jim Thorpe, while Brady Eisenhard finished with eight saves for the Spartans (2-3, 1-3).

Pine Grove-Lehighton

Pine Grove edged Lehighton for a 3-2 Schuylkill League victory.

After trailing 2-0 to the Cardinals (5-1, 3-0), Mason Marchessault put the Indians (6-2, 2-2) on the board with a penalty kick before Jaxson Strauss took a pass from Matt Sofranko to even the score.

Nate Frankenfield posted two goals for Pine Grove, while Damon Seiverling provided what turned out to be the game-winning goal to cap the scoring.

Bryce Miller finished with 14 saves for the Indians.

Palmerton-Moravian A.

Moravian Academy knocked off Palmerton for a 5-3 Colonial League victory.

Rafi Sanjuan led the Lions (2-1, 2-1) with two goals and an assist, while Saleem Diakite added a goal and an assist.

Peyton Waibel, Riley Bonser and Riley Fallon accounted for the Bombers’ (1-6, 0-4) scores, while AJ Borger and Trevor Anthony both added assists.

Trey Sterling grabbed 11 saves for the Bombers, and also stopped a penalty kick. Gabe Borsuk (four saves) and Alex Mayer (four saves) both split time in goal for Moravian.

FIELD HOCKEY

Northwest Area-Lehighton

Lehighton topped Northwest Area for a 3-2 overtime victory in non-league action.

Brielle Frable scored the game-winner for the Indians (2-5), while Gabby Brown added two goals and Grayson Frey made 15 saves.

Northern Lehigh-Pen Argyl

Pen Argyl posted a 3-1 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

Grace Weaver led the Green Knights (1-5) with two goals, while Katrina Valente also added a score.

Delia Quier scored for the Bulldogs (0-6).

Northwestern-So. Lehigh

Southern Lehigh remained unbeaten in Colonial League play thanks to a 4-1 victory over Northwestern.

Lana Hughes led the Spartans (4-1-1, 4-0) with two goals, while Cassidy Clausnitzer and Jillian VandeBunte also found the back of the cage.

Brinley Rex scored for the Tigers (3-2-1, 2-2), while Gabby Gober finished with eight saves.

Palmerton-Bangor

Emma Toth’s two goals were all Bangor needed to secure a 2-0 Colonial League win over visiting Palmerton.

Abigail Coleman finished with four saves for the Slaters (3-2-1, 3-2-1), who held an 8-6 edge in shots on goal.

Emily Bollinger recorded six saves for the Bombers (4-2, 3-2).

GIRLS SOCCER

Pleasant Valley-Bangor

Ella Muir led the Lady Bears with two goals in Pleasant Valley’s 4-3 non-league victory over Bangor.

Riley Green and Mya Manigo also scored for the Bears (4-2-1). Aryn Stivala had three assists, while Peyton Foder added one.

VOLLEYBALL

Executive Education Academy Charter School-Marian

Marian rolled to a 25-15, 25-11, 25-15 non-league victory against Executive Education Academy Charter School.

Julia Meiss put up 24 assists and nine digs for the Fillies (4-3), while Megan Paisley recorded eight kills and 10 digs.

Abbey Kluck added six kills and seven digs, while Fatikha Tikhtova added six kills and two assists and Jenna Goff delivered five kills in the win.

Pottsville-Northwestern

Northwestern posted a 3-1 non-league victory over Pottsville.

Brooke Dwane recorded 49 digs and three kills for the Tigers (4-2), while junior Kylie Nagle had 29 digs, nine aces and two kills. Senior Jenna Breininger had eight kills and three aces, and Bailey Murray added seven kills in the win.

Saucon Valley-Panther Vy.

Panther Valley swept Saucon Valley 28-26, 25-21, 25-16 for a non-league victory.

Riley McArdle recorded 14 digs, nine kills and an ace for the Panthers (5-1), while Emma Dacey added nine kills along with three aces and three digs. Mikayla Yuricheck had six digs, five kills and an ace.

Saucon Valley won the JV match 2-0.

Lehighton-Stroudsburg

Stroudsburg rallied for a 12-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20 non-league win over Lehighton.

Lyla Kershner paced the Indians with nine digs, while Makenna Snyder added three kills and Lorah Thomas contributed two kills.

Lehighton falls to 2-4 overall, while Stroudsburg jumps to 2-5 on the season.

Southern Lehigh-Palmerton

Southern Lehigh swept Palmerton for a 25-8, 25-14, 25-23 Colonial League win.

Alyssa Roe had six assists for the Bombers (2-3), while Jess Heydt also added three kills and Kaitlin Heimbach recorded three digs.

Minersville-Tamaqua

Minersville earned its first win of the season with a 25-23, 25-7, 25-21 victory over Tamaqua.

Eileen Lusch had nine digs and two aces for the Battlin’ Miners (1-5), while Sarah Coccio contributed nine blocks, two digs and one kill.

Lacey Beers led the Blue Raiders (1-7) with 22 digs and two aces, while Gabby Blasko chipped in with 10 digs, two aces and one block.
