Special guest
The Women’s Group of Effort, meeting at Effort UMC, will meet at 7 p.m. Monday.

Musical jam
The Make a Joyful Noise Country Gospel Band is honing its skills, and the coffee pot is on at St. Peter’s UMC in Saylorsburg. Musicians with various instruments, talents, vocal cords are invited to join in.

New programs
The Western Pocono Community Library is offering new programs in September.
They include: Letters of Love, Thursdays 3-7 p.m. for which WPCL partners with Letters of Love to provide cards of support to children battling critical illness. Card making supplies will be in the café every Thursday 3 to 7 p.m.; Read & Play, for ages 2-4, Monday and Wednesday from 2 to 3 p.m. Read & Play is open reading and play time using the library’s blocks and toys; and Mother Goose Toddler Time for ages 2 to 3, Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.-nursery rhymes and songs.
OTOH meeting
Operation Touch of Home will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion Post home in Gilbert.
Auxiliary meets
The Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 927 will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 14.
Precious junk
Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will hold its Precious Junk sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sept. 16 and Sept. 17.
Flea market
St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Rt. 115, Saylorsburg, will host its autumn flea market on Sept. 17, with a rain date of Sept. 24.
Doors will be open for sales from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Food truck fest
The West End Fire Company, Brodheadsville, is hosting a food truck festival with rummage sale and tricky tray on Sept. 17, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Pig roast
The Fourth annual Sons of the American Legion will be held from 2 to 9:30 p.m., Sept. 17, at the American Legion Post home in Gilbert. It offers unlimited food, beer, wine, fireworks. Tickets include tunes by Jammer Joe, pulled pork, burgers, hot dogs, soda, water, and a 50/50 drawing.

FUSION returns
Middlecreek Christian Church is again hosting a free weekend of music, food, ministry, fun, games, and much more at Fusion Festival 2022.
The event runs from Sept. 16 through Sept. 18.
To help with costs, love offerings will be accepted any time during the event. Attendees should bring their own camping gear and camp the entire weekend or just come for the day.
The event begins Friday at 5 p.m. with dinner followed by music from Jordan River Ramblers and It Is Written Worship. The movie Family Camp under the stars with a campfire Bible Study concludes the evening.

Soup sale set
Effort UMC is holding its next soup sale through Sept. 20. Being offered are stuffed cabbage soup and sausage minestrone. Pick up for the soup is after each service on Sept. 25.
Outdoor movie
The Western Pocono Community Library will be hosting a September Outdoor Movie Night at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 17. Encanto! will be playing. Registration is not required.
Those planning to attend should bring a blanket and flashlight. Any changes due to weather will be posted to the WPCL website and social media.
Breakfast
The Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company will restart its all-you-can-eat, buffet style, breakfast on Sept. 18. The time is 7 to 11:30 a.m.
Historical Society
After a two-month hiatus, the Chestnuthill Township Historical Society intends to meet again at 6 p.m., Sept. 21.
Blood drives set
Starting in September, the Miller-Keystone blood drive is moving to the second and fourth Monday in the WPCL track area. Appointments must be made directly with Miller-Keystone.

Special recycling
The Monroe County Municipal Waste Management Authority is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste event for Monroe County only on Sept. 21.
The drop-off location the Military Road Recycling Site, 1114 Military Road, Stroudsburg.
Accepted will be gasoline, antifreeze, motor oil, oil based paint, insecticides, pool chemicals, fire extinguishers and more.
One must register and pay before arriving. Only items paid for will be accepted.

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center 2023 Photo Contest is now open.
Folks are invited to send in photos that showcase Monroe County’s finest natural resources. Winners will receive maple syrup from the Meesing Sugarbush and a 2023 MCCD calendar. Submissions are due Sept. 23.
One grand prize winner will also be featured on the cover of the 2023 calendar.

Grand opening
The Ross Township has announced the Grand Opening of the Ross Township Historical Museum from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 1.
The ribbon-cutting will be at noon and light refreshments will be served.
The museum is located at the former township municipal building at 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg.
