Police chief updates rescue of boy from roof in Summit Hill

Summit Hill Police Chief Todd Woodward gave more details Thursday into the rescue of a 4-year-old boy by Summit Hill firemen from a roof at a home on East White Street.

Woodward said the incident began around 6 p.m. Tuesday when an officer on patrol noticed debris in the street. The officer stopped at the home and observed items being thrown from the roof by the boy.

Woodward said knocks on the door at the residence went unanswered, prompting the officer to call members of the Diligence Fire Company No. 1 to assist him and bring the boy to the ground.

Woodward said the boy’s mother was sleeping in the home at the time and the father was on a computer in the attic of the home.

Police have filed a report with Child Line, a statewide network that will result in the county’s Office of Children & Youth Services inquiring as to the supervision of the child. No charges have been filed against the parents, the chief said.
