Carbon veteran hub to begin counseling

Carbon County’s new Vet Center will begin to help area veterans beginning Sept. 14.

Christine LeClair, director of Carbon County Veterans Affairs, announced that the Scranton Vet Center will start its community access point at the Veterans Hub of Northeastern Pennsylvania, located in the St. Luke’s Lehighton campus, main lobby entrance, 211 N. 12th St., Lehighton.

In-person counseling to any veteran will be offered every Wednesday by appointment. Appointments can be made by calling the Scranton Vet Center at 570-344-2676.

Carbon County announced the new partnership with St. Luke’s University Health Network in August.

Under the agreement, St. Luke’s is providing 355 square feet of office space in the new walk-in behavioral health center at the former Gnaden Huetten campus for use by the Veterans Affairs office to provide medical services in behavioral health to veterans.

LeClair’s office will be able to provide claims work for veterans from the satellite office, as well as the Scranton Vet Center providing staff for counseling.

The official dedication of the new Veterans Hub will take place at 1 p.m. on Nov. 10.
