Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 6
Northwestern posted wins in both boys and girls soccer, while Palmerton also gained multiple victories (girls soccer, volleyball) on Tuesday.
Other winners included Tamaqua boys soccer, Lehighton girls soccer and Pleasant Valley field hockey.
BOYS SOCCER
Northwestern-No.Lehigh
Matt Johnson and Jack Mauro both had hat tricks to lift Northwestern to a 9-0 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.
In addition to their three goals, Johnson and Mauro both added an assist.
Josh Zellner contributed two goals to the win, while Jay Lowthert also tallied.
The Tigers received three assists from Cayden Fitch, with Dart DeLillo adding two. Jake van Lierop also chipped in with a helper.
Northwestern improved to 5-0, while the Bulldogs dropped to 1-2.
Tamaqua-North Schuylkill
Tamaqua edged North Schuylkill 2-1 in a Schuylkill League contest.
Goals by Jesse Gormley and Cooper Ansbach allowed the Blue Raiders to pull out the victory.
Ansbach assisted on Gormley’s tally, while Aaron Rolko had the helper on Ansbach’s go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal.
Tamaqua’s Jonathan Ulicny made five saves to help his team up its record to 2-1.
GIRLS SOCCER
Nativity-Lehighton
Sadie Monk’s five goals highlighted Lehighton’s commanding 11-2 victory over visiting Nativity.
Mylee Lutsko finished with two goals and two assists for the Indians, while Avery Bander, Ryleigh Walker, Charli McHugh and Leah Uyvari also scored.
Lehighton also received an assist from Karissa Moyer.
For Nativity, Ava Schappell accounted for both her team’s goals.
Lehighton improved to 3-1, while Nativity fell to 0-3.
No. Lehigh-Northwestern
Cammy Fitch’s overtime goal was all Northwestern needed to secure a 1-0 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.
Three minutes into the extra period, Fitch took a pass from Paige Bissell and converted to break the scoreless tie.
Tigers’ keeper Naomi Glassberg finished with two saves, while Bulldog goalie Dekotah Barthold stopped 10 shots.
Northwestern upped its record to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the league, while Northern Lehigh dropped to 3-1.
Moravian Acad. Palmerton
A hat trick from Nataly Walters helped lift Palmerton to a 4-0 Colonial League victory over Moravian Academy.
Emma Martinez also tallied for the Blue Bombers, who improved to 3-0.
Beth Morgan contributed a pair of assists, while keeper Emma Snyder made five saves in posting the shutout win.
FIELD HOCKEY
So. Lehigh-Northwestern
Carsyn Van Norman scored Northwestern’s only goal to help gain a 1-1 tie with Southern Lehigh in Colonial League action.
Hannah Gober assisted Van Norman’s goal, which came in the first half.
The Tigers, now 2-0-1, had 13 saves in the game.
Freedom-Pleasant Valley
Sara Lesnik, Alyssa Rudelitch and Mattison Hyland all scored goals for Pleasant Valley in a 3-1 victory over Freedom in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference play.
Heather Todaro added two assists for the Bears, while Molly Sobers had one.
Pleasant Valley, now 2-2, made seven saves in the winning effort.
Schuylkill Valley-Lehighton
Lehighton dropped a 4-1 decision to Schuylkill Valley.
Ava Kistner scored the only goal for the Indians, who dropped to 1-4.
Lehighton keeper Grayson Frey finished the contest with 12 saves.
VOLLEYBALL
North Schuylkill-Lehighton
Lehighton managed a win in the first set, but North Schuylkill came back to earn a 24-26, 25-20, 28-26, 25-14 Schuylkill League victory.
Haley Ginder led the Indians with 12 kills, while Makenna Snyder (five kills) and Lorah Thomas (four kills) also contributed at the net.
Lehighton fell to 2-2, while North Schuylkill improved to 3-1.
Palmerton-Weatherly
After dropping the first set, Palmerton rebounded to gain a 20-25, 29-27, 25-23, 25-17 victory over Weatherly.
Kaylee Strohl paced the Blue Bombers with 11 service points and six digs, while Alysa Roe added eight assists.
Kaitlyn Heimbach (six digs) and Jessica Heydt (six kills) also contributed to the Palmerton cause.
The Wreckers’ Christal Kislan had 10 service points, eight digs, six kills and three aces, while Kelly Michaels finished with 10 service points, seven kills, six digs, four aces and two blocks. Others aiding the Weatherly effort included Taylor Davidovich (seven assists, three kills, three digs), Becca Schell (six service points, four blocks, three assists, two aces) and Aysa Roe (five aces).
Palmerton evened its record at 2-2 on the season, while Weatherly fell to 1-3.
Tamaqua-Pine Grove
Tamaqua fell to Pine Grove in three straight sets 25-7, 25-4, 25-22 in Schuylkill League play.
Lacey Beers had seven digs for Tamaqua, while Sarah Coccio recorded two blocks.
The Blue Raiders dropped to 1-4, with the Cardinals improving to 1-1.
Pine Grove also captured the JV match in two sets.
GOLF
Weatherly-Mahanoy Area
Mahanoy Area remained undefeated by posting a 347-406 Schuylkill League victory over visiting Weatherly.
The Golden Bears’ Brady Najda earned medalist honors with an 81, while Bobby Kaufman finished with an 84.
Tanner Hinkle led the Wreckers with a team-best score of 93.
Weatherly dropped to 5-4, while Mahanoy Area moved to 9-0.
