Road work to begin next week in Walker Township
Schuylkill Paving is hoping to get some of its equipment to the Walker Township building this week and plans to start work next week on the road work that was approved at the July meeting, according to Walker Towsnhip Roadmaster Chad Felty.
The work includes patching and repairs to shoulders, fixing potholes, and making some base repairs. The streets to be fixed include sections of Valley and Catawissa roads, with three alternates: Kettle, Mountain and Reynolds roads. Schuylkill Paving was awarded the contract for $77,265 for all the roads including the three alternates.
“We should get together and make sure all the spots are marked that we want to be sure to take care of,” Felty told the supervisors.
In other roadmaster news:
Several township trucks are in the process of being inspected. The 1997 truck still has a list of issues that need to be done before it can be inspected. Supervisor Kent Heisler asked Felty if any of the work could be done in house.
Felty showed the supervisors the list of work.
“There’s not an awful lot that I can do in-house,” he said.
“The new skid loader was delivered two weeks ago,” Felty told the supervisors. “The broom and the bucket were not; they were held up, but are now on the way.”
Felty reported that within the last two weeks he was working on the Catawissa Bridge in the Cold Run area, shoring up the footer with stone and cement blocks while the water is low. “We also should get a mason in to patch the spalding on the side up against the rebar. That should take care of most of the complaints about the bridge.
Township supervisors discussed ordering more fuel.
Felty reported that the cheapest price was $3.999/gallon from K & K, $4.099/gallon at Fegley, and $4.169 at Countryside. Those prices were for an order of between 500 and 1,000 gallons. They would get an additional discount of $.02/gallon over 1,000 gallons.
“Right now, I could take about 900 gallons,” Felty told the supervisors.
It was decided to wait until they could take 1,000 gallons and get the extra discount.
