I read with interest Mr. Frassinelli’s column on the I.R.S., Aug. 23, 2022.
While he makes a valid case of taxpayer frustration when trying to speak to a representative, I feel the gist of this so called “Inflation Reduction Act” escapes him. He totally ignores the downside of enlarging this government bureaucracy.
I understand they want to hire tens of thousands of new agents.
If these new agents were hired just to man the phone calls of questioning taxpayers, that would be one thing, but hiring 80,000 new people, which I believe would double its staff, would make the IRS larger than the United States Marine Corps.
What is most frightening is why the IRS is purchasing thousands of guns, and from new reports, stockpiling millions of rounds of .40 caliber ammunition.
To what end?
Let’s never forget how the Obama Administration and Lois Lerner weaponized the IRS, a government agency, to punish conservative groups.
There is an old adage which states, that when the government fears the people, there is freedom, but when the people fear the government, there is tyranny.
As for me, I’d rather have the IRS hanging up on me than coming to my home armed with Glocks.
