Rally Day coming

St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, will hold its Rally Day at 10:30 a.m., Sept. 11 in the church grove with various special things. Among them: cupcakes and juice, an ice breaker introduction game, and bounce house to kick off the new school year.

Pig Roast held

The Fourth annual Sons of the American Legion will be held from 2 to 9:30 p.m., Sept. 17, at the American Legion Post home in Gilbert. It offers unlimited food, beer, wine, fireworks.

Tickets include tunes by Jammer Joe, pulled pork, burgers, dogs, soda, water, and a 50/50 drawing.

FUSION coming

Middlecreek Christian Church in Kresgeville has announced its FUSION event, a weekend of free music, food, ministry, fun, games and more, happening Sept. 16-18.

Soup sale set

Effort UMC is holding its next soup sale through Sept. 20. Being offered are stuffed cabbage soup and sausage minestrone.

Pick up for the soup is after each service on Sunday, Sept. 25.

Special recycling

The Monroe County Municipal Waste Management Authority is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste event for Monroe County only on Sept. 21.

The drop-off location the Military Road Recycling Site, 1114 Military Road, Stroudsburg.

Accepted will be gasoline, antifreeze, motor oil, oil based paint, insecticides, pool chemicals, fire extinguishers and more.

One must register and pay before arriving. Only items paid for will be accepted.

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center 2023 Photo Contest is now open. Folks are invited to send in photos that showcase Monroe County’s finest natural resources.

Winners will receive maple syrup from the Meesing Sugarbush and a 2023 MCCD calendar. Submissions are due Sept. 23.

One grand prize winner will also be featured on the cover of the 2023 calendar.

Ride and Rally

On Sept. 24, there will be a Keep Them Alive Ride & Rally beginning at the Vietnam Memorial Palmerton Borough Park on Delaware Ave. with registration from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and concluding at the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert with a barbecue, beginning at 2 p.m.

Proceeds benefit Veteran Suicide Awareness and the National Memorial Mile.

Free shirts will be given out at registration while they last.

Frantz School

The 2022 Open House for the Frantz One-Room Schoolhouse in Eldred Township will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sept. 24. The Schoolhouse is at 485 Church Road, in Kunkletown.

Anyone who has not been there may find this is a great opportunity to visit and see the wonderful displays of times past in Eldred Township. It is great for reminiscing and for school-aged children to see how their grandparents or great-grandparents were schooled.

There are collections of old textbooks, photos and many other displays related to the time the schoolhouse served the community.

Stargazing trip

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced a three-day stargazing trip to Cherry Springs State Park, that according to MCCD is a remote but well-known destination among amateur astronomers, as it offers the darkest skies in the eastern United States. Free from development and light pollution, skywatchers can observe over 6,000 stars as well as distant galaxies and deep space objects, and a magnificent view of the Milky Way.

The trip is from Sept. 23 through Sept. 25. It will include tent-camping and a leisurely bike ride on the Pine Creek rail trail through the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.

Barnstormers visit

There will be a concert by the Barnstormers at St. Matthews UCC, Kunkletown, at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 24.

Seniors vouchers

Eligible Monroe County Seniors can still get the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutritional Program vouchers for fresh produce.

There are quite a few participating markets & farmers in the West End.

Grand opening set

The Ross Township has announced the Grand Opening of the Ross Township Historical Museum from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 1.

The ribbon-cutting will be at noon and light refreshments will be served.

The museum is located at the former township municipal building at 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg.
