Stop sign installed at busy Palmerton intersection

A stop sign was installed at a busy intersection in Palmerton in time for the start of the 2022-2023 school year.

It was announced at Thursday’s borough council meeting that the borough’s Public Works Department put up the new stop sign at Third Street and Lafayette Avenue.

Vehicles traveling north from Delaware Avenue no longer have the right of way to proceed through the intersection at Lafayette Avenue without stopping.

Resident Jared Cebrosky said that while he’s appreciative of the new stop sign, it’s going to take some time to get used to.

Councilwoman Holly Hausman-Sell then stressed the importance that motorists take heed of the new traffic signal that’s in place.

“School’s going to start,” Hausman-Sell said. “People need to slow down.”

Hausman-Sell added that in the long run, she believes the stop sign will make it safer for children.

She said that the only reason there wasn’t one put there before was because the ambulance used it as a route to the hospital.
