The Lehighton bypass was reduced to one lane this afternoon after a Verizon utility pole fell across the roadway. It happened around 4 p.m. at the north end near the Kovatch dealership. Cars and sport utility vehicles were able to travel beneath a low hanging cable, but trucks and tractor trailers were forced to go through the lot. A passing Blue Ridge Cable lineman stopped to assist examining the situation. Lehighton police and fire police maintained traffic control at the scene. LARRY NEFF/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS
