Woman sentenced in 2009 killing of Trooper Joshua Miller

The woman who bought the gun that killed a state trooper in 2009 was sentenced in Monroe County on Friday.

Emily Gross bought the gun that Daniel Autenrieth used to kill Trooper Joshua Miller on June 7, 2009 in Coolbaugh Township after a 40-mile chase. Trooper Robert Lombardo was wounded in the shooting.

Gross, who pleaded guilty to the third degree felony of persons not to possess firearms, was sentenced to 12-24 months in state prison by Monroe County Judge Stephen Higgins.

Gross, who was living in Westfield, N.J., and lied that she was a Pennsylvania resident, was with Autenrieth, of Palmer Township, Northampton County, when she bought the gun, a semi automatic handgun.

Autenrieth had a protection from abuse order against him, which prohibited him from having firearms.

After buying the gun, Gross and Autenrieth returned to his home and she left the gun with him.

On June 7, 2009, Autenrieth kidnapped his 9-year-old son from his ex-wife.

He fled with the boy and troopers pursued him into Monroe County, with the chase eventually ending in Coolbaugh Township.

Autenrieth shot at the troopers, killing Miller and wounding Lombardo. The troopers returned fire and killed Autenrieth. The boy was not hurt.

At Friday’s sentencing, Trooper’s Miller widow, Angela Miller, and Lombardo spoke.

The case was argued before the state Supreme Court and appellate courts over the years, with the prosecution winning each time. The case is now concluded.
