August 18, 1997 - Gregg Kruczek defeats Pete Ryan on the first playoff hole, allowing Tamaqua to open its golf season with a victory over Blue Mountain. The two teams finish tied at 312-312 at the Mahoning Valley Public Course before Kruczek gains the win during the sudden death playoff. Kruczek earns medalist honors with a 72, while teammate Chad Gustis finishes one stroke back with a 73. The Blue Raiders, coached by Butch Webb, also receive an 81 from Jake Kalyan.
