Free dinner
Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is again offering a free community drive-in dinner today, beginning at 5 p.m.
The meal is to be chicken salad, pasta salad, pickle, watermelon, dessert and a snack.
Summer concert
Tonight’s evening summer concert at the Saylorsburg Blue Ridge Flea Market, hosted by the Sherman Theater, will feature Zac N’ Fried Tribute to Zac Brown Band.
Next week it will be the Fleetwood Macked Tribute to Fleetwood Mac.
Tickets can be purchased at shermantheater.com or the Sherman Theater Box Office.
Monroe County residents receive a discount.
Eldred meeting
The Eldred Township Board of Supervisors is slated to meet at 7 p.m. today at the municipal building on Kunkletown Road.

The American Legion Honor Guard, Post 927, is holding its practice at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Post Home in Brodheadsville.
WELL Meeting
The open meeting of the West End Little League will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville.
Seniors program
Monroe County Seniors participants from all senior centers can enjoy a special musical event the Loder Center at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
They can enjoy the classical music of AmeriCorps RSVP volunteer and musician Harvey Feldman on the porch at the Loder Center in East Stroudsburg.
Special guest
Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church, Brodheadsville, is having a special guest at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Thomas Jones of Monroe County United, whose mission has been building relationships and offering programs of healing and hope at multiple events within the county and local schools, in cooperation with local and state police departments, will present a program titled Humanity at Its Best in Our Community.
Volunteer drive
Meals on Wheels is hosting a new volunteer drive, a household essentials drive and a pet food drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rimrock Masonic Center in Bartonsville on Saturday.
Staff will be on hand to answer any questions about volunteering with the organization and will also be collecting donations of household essentials, such as detergent, deodorant, toilet paper, etc. and pet food.
Church celebration
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of Pastors Scott and Kelly Carver coming to lead the church’s ministry this Sunday.
Special service
St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, is anticipating the special music of the trio Freely Given as well as their words of testimony to be brought to the 10 a.m. service this Sunday.
Outdoor service
Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran church, Kresgeville, invites people to join the congregation for an 10:30 a.m. service in the church’s Faith garden. Bring a bagged lunch, lawn chairs or a blanket and join the church family directly after the service for some fun with summer games, crafts and a cool summer treat, ice cream sandwiches.

SAL meeting
The Sons of the American Legion will hold a monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Post home in Gilbert. Prospective members are welcome.

Effort UMC’s food pantry, known as the Supplemental Food Resource Center, is requesting donations of peanut butter.
Seniors dinner
Those attending the Chestnuthill Senior Center at Zion Lutheran this Friday can order flaked fish Thermidor for Friday, but that must be done two days in advance by calling by 11 a.m. to the site manager at 570-242-6770.
Busy Tuesday
The Pleasant Valley School District will be busy at all its schools on Tuesday. At the PVE there is kindergarten orientation/bus ride for two sessions, 9 and 10:30 a.m.
At the middle school it is Meet the Principal and Find your Classroom, from 8 to 10 a.m.
And at PVHS it is Freshmen Orientation from 8 to 10 a.m.
Found a tick
Residents of Pennsylvania of both Carbon and Monroe County can call take advantage of free tick testing for a variety of tickborne illness by placing a request online at https://www.ticklab.org.
A local PA Tick Lab is part of the Dr. Jane Huffman Wildlife Genetics Institute at East Stroudsburg University.
Special program
In light of August being National Wellness Month, the four Monroe Senior Centers will each be hosting a special program, Boost your Mood with Food.
The Chestnuthill Center’s presentation is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. next Wednesday.

Ross food drive
Monroe County Meals on Wheels is the beneficiary of Ross Township hosting a household essential drive for the Meals on Wheels Outreach program.
In addition, Meals on Wheels will be hosting a new volunteer drive, household essentials drive, and pet food drive at the Rimrock Masonic Center in Bartonsville from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, which is Meals on Wheels Day.
Recipes needed
There are no funds for the four county senior centers for activities, including the West End’s Chestnuthill Center at Zion Lutheran Church.
Hence, from the Community Services Supervisor at the Monroe County Area Agency of Aging, Merle Turitz, comes word of the need for recipes and a related memory or story to be published in a fundraising cookbook, The Secret Ingredient Uncovered, to be published in October, featuring 300 family recipes and related stories.

She requests that people send in their respective family recipe, along with a few sentences sharing a memory or story about the recipe.

Dirty dirt warning
There is a warning for any residents who are preparing to fill areas on their property from Eldred Township and also follow-up information from Kristina Heaney, District Manager, Monroe County Conservation District.
That warning is that “clean fill,” offered free of charge or for a fee, may contain contaminants that should not be dumped on residential property.

Craft Festival
The Pocono State Craft Festival will be held at Quiet Valley, Monroe County’s living, historical farm from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 27 and Aug. 28.
Not only does it offer the chance to see the crafts, but one will be able to buy some, as well as baked goods prepared by QV members and volunteers.

Volunteer sought
Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is seeking volunteers for its home preservation projects. Those who volunteer now through Aug. 31 could win one of several prepaid gift cards. The more times one volunteers with MCHH the more chances one has to win.

The local Day of Caring for Monroe County and campaign kickoff will be held Sept. 7, in person, at 8 a.m. at the Barley Creek Brewing Company in Tannersville.

Golf Tournament
Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is hosting its 25th Annual Golf Tournament at Great Bear Golf Club on Sept. 28.
Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. At 1 p.m. it is a shotgun start.
At 6 p.m. it is a buffet dinner and presentation of awards and raffle prizes.

Grand opening set
The Ross Township has announced the grand opening of the Ross Township Historical Museum from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 1.
The ribbon-cutting will be at noon and light refreshments will be served.
The museum is located at the former township municipal building at 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg.
