August 13, 1953 - Tamaqua’s Harry Fitzpatrick and Don Unger combine on a three-hitter to lead their knee-hi team to a 4-3 victory over Souderton in the opening round of the statewide tournament at Doylestown. Fitzpatrick tosses the first four innings, allowing the three runs, and is relieved in the fifth by Unger, who pitches shutout ball the rest of the way. Trailing by a run in the home fifth, Tamaqua’s Mike Stabilla and Dave Evans both single to help produce the tying run. John Marko brings home the go-ahead run with a squeeze bunt.
