Balloons, custom gifts a new choice for Carbon fair

Be sure to visit Balloons by Robinson when you go to the Carbon County Fair to see beautiful creations and pick up a gift or two.

Starting a business creating and designing balloons displays is not something Lori Robinson ever considered.

When her daughter was a freshman at Pleasant Valley she saw a balloon arch for senior night for one of the sports teams. She went home and told her mom she wanted an arch for her senior night.

“When it was coming about that time, I looked into the pricing and was astonished at how much they could charge. I looked around at different balloon places in the area and it was like $700,” she said.

Realizing that these girls would walk through it once, get their photos taken and then play the game, Robinson said, “There was no way I would pay that much, so I started watching things and practicing.”

Her husband fabricated a gigantic arch and she covered the entire arch with balloons.

“It actually was crazy because the girls senior night ended up getting canceled due to weather and I had 1,000 blue and white balloons all ready to go,” she said.

Putting on her thinking cap she donated the balloon arch to the Palmerton girls.

Robinson and her husband even went and helped set it up.

It wasn’t long before she was getting requests to make balloon decorations for events.

Once she put up a website, there was no turning back.

“As you can imagine my house gets pretty crowded with balloons. Organization is key,” she said.

Robinson is a master of balloon creations and wants people to know it is more than blowing up a bunch of balloons especially when you are creating a 9-foot snowman.

What started two years ago as a side job is now full-time job for her.

In addition to some balloons at the fair, visitors can purchase gift items such as etched glassware, LED lights and custom acrylic pieces.
