Schuylkill Fair prepares for hot weather

The temperature at the Schuylkill County Fairgrounds in Summit Station may soar as high as 93 on Thursday.

And it will be warm on Friday, too, when the National Weather Service predicts the mercury to top out at 90 degrees.

“With the excessive heat warnings, we are taking more precautions through the end of the week,” explained Paul Kennedy, president of the Schuylkill County Fair Association.

Coolers will be stocked with bottled water for attendees to drink, and there will be misting stations placed throughout the fairgrounds.

“We want everyone to be comfortable,” Kennedy said.

He added that additional emergency medical service providers will be on hand. A First Aid station is equipped with air conditioning, he said.

Thursday is Senior Citizens’ Day at the fair. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that those over the age of 65 years are more prone to heat-related health issues.
