A multiuse training facility in Carbon County that has been in the works for nearly a decade is nearing completion, officials said.
Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein, who has been a driving force behind the project for emergency responders, said a dedication ceremony and Sept. 11 event will be held at 1 p.m. on Sept. 11 at the new center, located on Public Safety Lane, just off the Broad Mountain, in Nesquehoning.
The new Carbon County Emergency Operations and Training Center includes a 3,009-square-foot police training building and a 9,538-square-foot, four-story fire training tower that will be able to be used by firefighters, police and other emergency responders for training purposes without having to leave the county.
Nothstein said that when the dedication takes place, the center should be approximately 90 percent complete, with a final completion date in October.
Any first responder and emergency agency that plans to attend the event is asked to RSVP to the Carbon County Emergency Management Agency by no later than Aug. 29 because parking space is limited at the site.
To help offset the costs of the dedication, the committee is also creating a program with the history of the project.
Ads in the program are now being accepted until Aug. 8. There are full-page ($225), half-page ($100) and quarter-page ($50) options available.
To submit an ad with artwork, email ccema@ptd.net in a PDF file with the subject line: Dedication booklet ad.
Checks should be made payable to Carbon County Firemen’s Association and mailed to Carbon County EMA/CCFA, 1264 Emergency Lane, Nesquehoning PA, 18240.
