Monroe car club raises funds for Meals on Wheels

Monroe County Cruisers Car Club helped Monroe County Meals on Wheels celebrate its 50th Anniversary by having a benefit car show on Saturday at the West End Fairgrounds. All proceeds from the show were given to the program that serves the community.

There was no admission fee, but visitors were encouraged to bring a donation of pet items, personal hygiene products, feminine products and toilet paper, paper towels, or anything nonfood related.

A total of 75 cars entered this year’s car show, a bit lower than other shows.

People said they believed the lower participants was due to a combination of gas prices and the heat.

“I think because of the heat it kept people away,” said Nick Snyder of Kunkletown who came to show off his Chevy Impala.

The event returned after a two-year hiatus, Stacey Koeck, special events/pet program coordinator, said.

It honored the late Kim Brown, the daughter of the former events manager for the group. Brown always designed the T-shirts for event and fundraisers and she designed the pamphlets for events.

The results of the fundraiser wasn’t available as of press time.
