Schuylkill County judges imposed punishments on a Tamaqua woman in three cases.
Terri L. Kates, 43, was charged by Tamaqua Police Officer Christopher J. Cordes with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, first offense, and reckless driving on Sept. 4, 2021.
Judge Christopher J. Hobbs sentenced her to serve 72 hours to six months in jail; pay a $1,000 fine; court costs; and pay $250 for a DNA sample.
Hobbs also ordered her to perform 10 hours of community service, successfully complete Alcohol Highway Safety School; enroll in outpatient substance abuse treatment for three to six months; and obtain a mental health evaluation and comply with any recommendations.
Her license is suspended for 12 months.
In a separate case, Kates was charged by Frackville State Trooper Christopher M. Rooney with retail theft on Nov. 5, 2021.
Judge Charles M. Miller placed her on probation for 12 months, to be served after she completes a prison sentence for a crime.
He also ordered Kates to pay $139.23 in restitution to Walmart, a $50 monthly supervision fee, and a $50 bench warrant fee to the district attorney’s office. She was also ordered to submit a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee for that, plus a total of $150 in other fees.
In a third case, Kates was charged by Cordes with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia on Aug. 30, 2021.
Hobbs sentenced her to serve three to 24 months in state prison on the substance charge, and 12 months on probation on the paraphernalia charge, to be served after her prison sentence.
