Woman pleads guilty in Pottsville jeweler’s slaying

A woman charged in the Feb. 28, 2019, killing of Pottsville jeweler Patrick J. Murphy in New Orleans has pleaded guilty.

Megan E. Hall, 28, of Tennessee, admitted to manslaughter, obstruction of justice and armed robbery, according to Sheriff Susan Hutson of the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Hall was originally charged with second degree manslaughter in Murphy’s death at a New Orleans hotel. Her trial was expected to begin next week, according to court documents.

Murphy was attending a jewelers’ convention with his wife when he was killed.

Video cameras recorded Murphy and Hall entering the hotel together a little after 2 a.m. that day, and then Hall leaving alone at about 3:45 a.m.

Murphy’s body was found by hotel staff the next morning.

He had died of stabbing.

On Monday, Hall arrived at what was to be a pretrial conference with her attorney, John Fuller. Assistant District Attorney Joseph Zanetti was present.

Instead, she pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to 25 years at hard labor. However, 15 years of her sentence was suspended, and she was given credit for the three years she already served while awaiting trial.
