Township to spend nearly $20K to repair sinkhole

It will cost Mahoning Township nearly $20,000 to repair a sinkhole along Jamestown Drive.

Supervisors unanimously agreed on Wednesday to award a bid in the amount of $18,875 to Hartman Contracting LLC.

The board has received two bids for the project, according to Supervisor Ronald Reeser.

“Both of them are saying they can get it done before school because that’s a bus route,” Reeser said.

Reeser added that the township would use liquid fuels money to pay for the project.

The scope of the work is as follows:

• Removal of 60 feet of existing deteriorated concrete storm pipe.

• Install 36 feet of HDPE ADS double wall pipe in its place; one end to be installed into existing inlet box, other end to be connected to concrete pipe with a Marmac connector.

• Backfill entire excavated area with 2A modified stone and compacted in lifts to grade.

• Excavated materials and debris will be hauled and dumped at Mahoning Township property.
