Cmdr. Gary J. Evans, USN, has received a Meritorious Service Medal for his “steadfast commitment to excellence, resourcefulness and total dedication to duty” while serving as deputy director, Systems Engineering Directorate, Naval Information Systems Management Center, Washington, D.C.

The Summit Hill native received the award from Rear Adm. Stephen Johnson during a ceremony held in Crystal City, Virginia.

Evans is a son of Kathleen Evans of Summit Hill and Gary Evans of Schuylkill Haven. He is a 1974 graduate of Panther Valley High School and a 1978 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland.
