Most everyone agrees … fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetable just can’t be beat. And now, there’s a new place in Slatington to buy them.
The Slatington Farmers Market made its debut this weekend.
The market is run by Audrey Bleiler, from Bleiler’s Produce Patch of Breinigsville. This weekend, they had rhubarb, tomatoes, zucchini, yellow squash, onions, broccoli, cabbage, plus eggs and other items.
“We didn’t bring everything that we had,” Audrey Bleiler explained. “We wanted to see how things went this weekend. We will be adding more things each week as the season progresses. We have plans for sweet corn in a few weeks, beans, and a lot more.”
They also featured a variety of homemade tomato products like ketchup, tomato spread, spaghetti sauce, and salsa that they make themselves.
“We don’t use any pesticides,” Bleiler added. “Everything is natural and right from our home, from our greenhouse.”
The Slatington Farmers Market is located at the far right end of the Slatington Marketplace, and will be open Fridays 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Farmers Market and the Market place are located in the former Keystone Lamp Factory building on Route 873, just about 1 mile from the Slatington bridge.
