Summit Hill church recognizes active military

Hope of Christ Presbyterian Church, in Summit Hill, recognized Airman Spencer Perkins this past Sunday during the 10:30 a.m. service.

Perkins was recognized for his recent graduation from Joint Military Technical School and received a blessing for safe travels as he moves to his next assignment to Guam within the week.

The Rev. Ruth Ann Christopher presided over this special recognition and blessing during the service. The praise team performed “A Salute to the Armed Forces” honoring all active duty and veterans of our military.

Spencer Perkins is the son of David Perkins and Ms. Beth Kutzner.

Perkins is following in his grandfather’s footsteps as Donald Kutzner and the late Dallas Perkins were both Air Force veterans.

He is a Lehighton High School graduate and attended basic training for the Air Force at Joint Base Lackland, in San Antonio, Texas. His technical training was held at Fort George G. Meade Army Base, Maryland. Perkins is part of the Air Force Public Affairs Department and has received college credit toward his future in mass communications.

Public Affairs deals with communicating the military’s mission. These specialists have a wide array of responsibilities and do everything from writing and copy editing, photography, videography, graphic design, layout design and serving as on-camera announcers to maintaining the archive library to ensure information is saved for future generations. Public Affairs airmen may also have the opportunities to work in radio and television broadcasting, video production, and studio work.
