Food truck chef opening permanent site

Margaret LaFiura always dreamed of owning a brick-and-mortar restaurant, and her dream will soon become a reality.

“We have a food cart and pop-up tents that we’ve been doing for about eight years in this area,” she said.

If you attended many outside events in the West End of Monroe County, you probably enjoyed a delicious meal from LaFiura’s Rice Around the World food truck.

Finally with a lot of hard work and an offer from a silent partner, she was able to begin remodeling a small building on Route 209 South across from the Tractor Supply store.

“The construction is almost finished on the brick-and-mortar building, and we are just waiting for permits,” she said.

When she says “we” it is because it truly is a family business. Her sons, daughter, daughter-in-law and her grandchildren all help out.

“When we had the food truck we called it Rice Around the World and I made many different sauces for the rice bowls and we also had burgers, tacos and empanadas, but now we have the building, we will still have our rice bowls, but we want to expand the menu,” LaFiura said.

One of the reasons LaFiura said she named the restaurant Sauce is that she loves making comfort food and adding sauces to some of her comfort dishes. The menu will also include tacos, burgers with your choice of sauces, cheese steaks, fried chicken and wings with your choice of sauces.

“I want to make it a place where friends and families can come and relax and enjoy foods that comfort them. I think this area is lacking for places where people can meet and visit and just be comfortable,” she said.

When the restaurant opens it will be able to seat 20 people inside, and outside there will be umbrella tables with chairs on the patio where patrons can enjoy their meals outside.

Until all the permits are in place, she will host pop-up events.

On a recent weekend, she had a paella party, with wine from Stone Lake Winery and music.

“I dreamed of having a restaurant, and by the grace of God I now have one,” LaFiura said.
