Tamaqua Police Log

Tamaqua Police released the following reports:

• A Tamaqua bicyclist was struck from behind by a car just after midnight on May 29, police said.

Christian Shilko, 52, was transported to St. Luke’s Miners Campus in Coaldale for treatment of minor injuries following the incident.

According to police, the driver who struck Shilko said they were traveling around 40 mph on the Number 11 Hill (Route 209) when they saw a man riding a bike in the middle of the roadway. Both told police that there were no lights or illuminating reflectors on the bike.

Police cited Shilko with general lighting requirements.

• Police cited Albino Oliberio, 51, of Tamaqua, following a May 28 domestic incident.

Officers were dispatched to the unit block of Hunter Street at 10:30 p.m. for an incident involving Oliberio. Witnesses said Oliberio attempted to swing a bat at a woman.

He was charged with harassment, police said.

• Jordan R. Rumberger, 36, of Tamaqua, was committed to Schuylkill County Prison on charges he assaulted his fiancé.

According to police, the woman drove to the Tamaqua police station soon after the June 12 incident with Rumberger. She told police that he shoved her into a wall, placed his hand around her neck, threw her to the ground and got on top of her. Police said they observed reddening on her face and neck.

According to officers, the victim’s 9 year-old son witnessed the incident. Rumberger left the home temporarily. As the victim was getting her children out of the home, he returned and prevented her from taking the three youngest children.

Rumberger was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker on charges of simple assault and harassment. Kilker set bail at $10,000 straight.

• Police charged Matthew V. Petrucci, 40, of Jim Thorpe, with possession of drug paraphernalia following a June 8 traffic stop.

According to police, officers were on patrol on Route 309 in the borough when a license plate reader alerted them that the owner of a passing vehicle was wanted on a warrant from the Berks County Sheriff’s office.

Police stopped the vehicle and spoke to Petrucci, who was sweating profusely. Once police confirmed his identity and the warrant, he was taken into custody.

In the glove compartment, officers found a small cosmetic container with brown residue and a small piece of cotton, which is commonly used for ingesting narcotics.

• Victor Perez Jr., 57, of Lansford, was cited for driving without a valid license on June 10.

Officers stopped a vehicle in the area of East Broad and Federal streets after noticing it cross the yellow line several times.

Police stopped the vehicle, and Perez gave them consent to search it. Officers said they found an open can of beer which Perez said he had just purchased. Police said Perez did not appear intoxicated but admitted that he didn’t have a driver’s licnese.

The vehicle was towed.
