Tamaqua Borough Council

Tamaqua Borough Council approved the following actions this week:

• Shane P. Young as a full-time street maintenance worker at a rate of $24 per hour, and Aydan Cody as a part-time maintenance worker at a rate of $12.50 per hour.

• Retained Robert J. Filloy as a full-time street maintenance worker effective June 2, and Stephen J. Surotchak as a full-time water distribution worker effective June 7.

• Resignation of police officer Corey Herring. In a letter to council, he noted that he found employment elsewhere. He will work in Tamaqua until June 14.

• Approved handicapped parking spaces for 136 Mahanoy St., 147 Penn St. and 428 Arlington St.

Members denied an application for 303 Clark St. because the space would exceed the number allowed on that block. Council President Brian Connely said the applicant should be reminded that he can park at any of those spaces because they’re not “owned” by anyone, and they’re just like any other handicapped space.

• Approved temporary street closures for Tamaqua Summerfest on June 19, and the Citizens Fire Co. No. 1 block party, which begins June 25.
