LVH-Carbon has busy first day
Herbert Bryan’s day began unlike any other Wednesday morning.
While working in Palmerton, he began to feel off, and before long fainted.
Fortunately for Bryan, care was literally only a few miles away at the brand-new Lehigh Valley Hospital-Carbon.
Bryan was transported by EMS to the $80 million facility in Mahoning Township, which opened its doors just several hours earlier.
“It’s beautiful,” said Bryan of the brand-new hospital. “No complaints.”
Bryan said he was treated for dehydration, and was impressed with the care he received.
“The technology,” he said. “The nurse was very helpful, knowledgeable.”
Bryan, of Albrightsville, was the second-ever patient at LVH-Carbon.
“It was a good choice,” he said. “I feel great.”
Sun-filled skies marked the opening of the 100,578-square-foot campus.
Three surgeries were scheduled for Wednesday. Infusions were also scheduled.
Inside, employees said it’s good to see the hospital up and running.
Alison Patton, registration specialist, said she felt right at home.
“It was very exciting walking in,” Patton said. “As soon as I walked in, we had our first patient.”
Patton said the local residents can know they will receive excellent care close to home.
“It’s a beautiful facility; everything is very welcoming,” she said. “It’s good to be here.”
Danielle Foster, a registered nurse, shared much the same sentiment.
“I’m very excited for the opening, and am very proud to have this hospital in the local community,” Foster said. “They can expect to have great care, and we’re all really excited to have care for our families, friends, and neighbors.”
Several hours into its first day, the hospital’s opening had gone smoothly, according to Christine Biege, president, LVH-Carbon.
“Now that we’re open, it’s the people here that are going to make the difference in patient care,” Biege said. “The community is excited, and there has been an extremely warm reception.”
