Schuylkill Township approves road projects
The board of supervisors for Schuylkill Township discussed road pavement options Monday night during a regular monthly meeting.
To stay within budget, the supervisors needed to decide between repairing one to two huge roads or repair a bigger number of smaller roads.
Maintenance worker Mark Buccieri suggested completing the most traveled roads first and had support from attendees in the audience, but also explained the downside of doing that.
“I think to do the most traveled roads like Sunny Drive, but that’s expensive and almost the whole budget,” Buccieri explained.
Chairman Charles Fayash offered another perspective to the conversation.
“It may be worth it to do the other roads because there are some huge potholes on some of these roads around here,” Fayash said.
Either way, Buccieri said he wants to complete all of the roads on their list, including smaller roads like Cemetery Road. He said all of the roads need work, but a smart decision needed to be made.
By the end of the discussion involving supervisors, borough workers and township residents, Buccieri said he thinks Sunny Drive should ultimately be prioritized due to its frequent rate.
Fayash ultimately motioned to do Firehouse Road and Sunny Drive, estimating that they could afford to complete the road from South Main to Dodson Street. He also said he’d check to see if they could get the smaller Washington Street done in addition to the busier streets.
Supervisor Charles Hosler agreed with his suggestion and Vice Chairman Gary Feathers said he seconded Fayash’s motion as long as the asphalt expense did not exceed $23,000.
The motion was passed with the stipulation that the asphalt expenses stayed within the suggested range.
