Fire destroys home in Lake Hauto community

Flames destroyed a home in the private Lake Hauto community Sunday afternoon.

Andy Tite, a captain with the Hometown Volunteer Fire Company, was one of the first on the scene at 64 Crescent Dr. in Rush Township.

“There was heavy fire load on the east side of the building starting on the exterior,” Tite said of the 2:40 p.m. incident.

The flames worked their way to a garage and ran up a void space to the second floor of the building, he said.

“There were very bad fire conditions on the second floor,” Tite noted.

Crews sprayed water on the flames. The fire was out in about 90 minutes.

Tite said a woman and her son were home but safely exited before crews arrived. The woman’s husband was shopping at a local store.

No firefighters were injured and Tite said the fire was ruled accidental in nature.

Sadly, the home is a total loss.

“We had an overwhelming amount of help,” Tite said of the turnout from first responders.

The South Ward Fire Company of Tamaqua; Nesquehoning Hose Company No. 1, Tamaqua Ambulance and Mahanoy City Fire Department assisted.
