Troop creates birthday boxes for those less fortunate
Turns out those less fortunate can, in fact, have their cake and eat it too.
For their birthdays, no less, and they can thank a local Girl Scout Troop for the noble gesture.
Palmerton Girl Scout Troop 3305 recently set out to earn its bronze award through the creation of birthday boxes for those less fortunate.
The theme of their project was “Join Us On Party Street” and the girls worked to collect items such as cake supplies, party decor and tableware.
Items were assembled into boxes and donated by the Palmerton Food Pantry. In all, a total of 40 boxes were contributed toward the project.
Pantry chairperson Ken Kaiser said he’s appreciative of the troop for its big-hearted ways.
“The people will appreciate it very much,” Kaiser said. “They are so giving; I just can’t say enough.”
Members of the troop spoke glowingly of their project.
“It was fun making it,” said Peyton Mantz, 10. “We got to go to stores, get the supplies, but we were able to make a lot of birthday boxes.”
Calianna Smale, 10, added, “I thought it was cool that people who are less fortunate get to have a birthday party.”
“We all really enjoyed helping (them have) an experience for their birthday,” said Harper Hahn, 10.
Leah Hofmann, 11, said, “I think it was fun we got to help others who don’t have enough money, and birthday-wise. It was nice that we were able to go together and get the supplies.”
“I like helping the people that don’t have for birthdays and supplies,” said Payton Borger, 9.
Jaelyn Hillegass, 9, said, “I like that we’re helping people, that we all got to do it as a group,” Kaelin said. “Now, they can all afford something like that.”
Jodi Smale, leader, expressed how proud she was of the troop.
“I am extremely proud of not only each of these eight girls who earned their bronze award, but our three Brownies who didn’t miss a beat in helping their sister Girl Scouts reach this outstanding achievement,” Smale said.
