NEPA Giving Day
People can donate to local organizations through NEPA Giving Day. Go to nepagives.org and search for the local organization. The 24-hour giving program runs until 11:59 p.m. today.
Here are some who participating:
• The 20/20 Circle at the Carbon County Community Foundation works together to increase their impact in Carbon County by pooling their philanthropic dollars.
• Behavior Health Associates empowers students by providing comprehensive and compassionate educational and mental health resources for all students, regardless of their circumstances.
• The Bowmanstown Area Residents Connected group was established to empower the residents of Bowmanstown, through increased community awareness and communication.
• Brodhead Watershed Association: The Brodhead Watershed Association aims to provide assistance and education to municipalities, residents, businesses and groups on protecting natural resources through sound development practices, science-based outreach, workshops, public programs, stream water quality monitoring and baseline data collection.
• Carbon Community Foundation: The Carbon County Community Foundation is a nonprofit organization that acts as an umbrella for many distinct charitable funds. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for all Carbon County residents.
• Dimmick Memorial Library: In addition to traditional services, the library is planning book discussions, artsy get-togethers, STEAM activities, and various special interest events.
• Family Promise of Carbon County is a public charity whose mission is to help families experiencing homelessness and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community based response by providing temporary shelter, meals, and fellowship in order to meet the basic needs of families without permanent housing in Carbon County and the surrounding communities.
• Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library provides high-quality, age-appropriate books to children in Carbon County every month for free, no matter their family’s income. Any child who lives in Carbon County and is under the age of 5 can sign up. Once a month, that child will receive a new, different book in the mail.
• Jacob’s Weissport Historical Society: The museum has artifacts from the canal boats, the railroad industry, coal industry, and many other industries that were started many years ago. In 2017, the historical society was instrumental in getting a statue of Olympic swimmer Betty Mullen Brey put in Weissport Park.
• JRS Fire Horse Ranch, Albrightsville, is a nonprofit organization to help folks with drug and alcohol related issues, as well as loss of a child, due to these issues. The organization helps folks with gas money to and from appointments, medical appointments, food, clothing and provides private counseling,
• The Kettle Creek Environmental Fund is to promote and support environmental education in Monroe County by raising funds and donating them to the Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center. Programs and resources are available for all age groups from toddlers to adults.
• The Kidder Hike & Bike Trail, located in the northern part of Carbon County, provides a safe way for residents and visitors to enjoy hiking and biking around the lakes and forests in Kidder Township.
• The Lehigh River Stocking Association was originally founded in 1991 as a trout stocking organization. For the past 15 years our focus has grown to include studying the Lehigh River Watershed in Carbon, Lehigh, and Northampton counties. Each year the LRSA conducts tributary surveys on 17 streams to determine the health and status of the river and its associated watershed.
• The Lehigh River Watershed Fund was established at the Carbon County Community Foundation in 2019 to support all manner of conservation, education, and outdoor recreation pursuits for the benefit of the Carbon County region.
• Minsi Trails Council Boy Scouts of America continues its strong tradition of providing quality service and programs to today’s youth.
• Monroe County Meals on Wheels: Over 225 dedicated volunteers deliver meals to clients.
• Penny Allison Early Childhood Fund advances education for young learners through grants to school programs. Funded programs prepare parents to nurture their children through the earliest stages of learning; promote school readiness; and provide enrichment experiences for young learners.
• Pocono Heritage Land Trust is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the natural heritage of the Pocono Mountains region by conserving land and inspiring people to care for, enjoy, and explore their natural world. Since the fund’s launch in 2020, nearly $12,000 has been awarded to teachers and classrooms in Carbon County to support area students.
• Turn to Us: The Turn To Us Spectrum Sensory Gym is designed specifically for children diagnosed with autism, sensory processing disorder, or other special needs. The goal is to increase the diagnosed child’s confidence, social skills, and physical skills through the repetitive use of sensory gym equipment.
